Nait 5 w/ HiCap?

Posted by: Vaughn3D on 01 August 2003

Greetings. I wondering if anyone out there has thoughts on the benefits of adding a hicap to a Nait 5.

My current system is an original Planet, Nait 5, Audio Physic Spark III. I'm sure you are all thinking I should upgrade the Planet to a CD5 or CDX. However, replacing my CD player is much harder to get past my wife than a used power supply that she will hardly notice and will have no need to interact with. But if I am being crazy here, feel free to let me know.

Do you think you could send your Planet off for a 'service', and 'refurbish' the 'case' at the same time Smile.

<shush>I might know someone in NY who is looking for a used Planet.</shush>

I've run a Nait 5 bare, with an FC2, and presently with a used Hi. I picked up both used for just 200 dollars more (US) than a new Nait 5. You also will need the snaic (4?) to run the combination, so that cost also needs to factored in.
Compared to the 82/sc/250, it gives up very little. VFM wise, it is not even a contest, since the combination is simply outstanding.
The jump to the hi from the FC2 did not scream "improvement" at first, but after several months, switching back told the tale. I find it to be an extremely lucid system.
If your speakers are well matched re: their power requirements with the Nait, it's worth listening to. Besides, one can always find something to attach a Hi to if you don't care for the combination.. Scoffing them up on the used market is a steal.

Joolz, I think it depends a lot on what speakers you are using. I have a hicapped Nait3r and both flatcap and hicap were very good for me. The improvements were bl***y big.
