I dithered over ipods for years, until my wife bought me a 60GB last month. Excellent machine, I love it and i-tunes, wish i'd jumped sooner. Only problem is 60GB isn't enough. I've nearly filled it with CDs (at 128 kbs) and haven't really started transfering the vinyl.
i-pod user forums explain how to DIY battery swaps etc.

I just hope that iPOD has a good sound quality.I´ve heard a Creative and a perception digital and Creative was far good!

The most important for me is the sound quality.I want to listen my cd´s on a good MP3 player. For those who have a iPOD,is the sound quality better than other´s MP3 players?

P.S. I can´t hear iPOD before buy it,they don´t do a demo,I´m affraid!

As I have never used an actual IPOD itself, I can't comment on how good it is.
However, I got an Archos GMINI 200 (just been superceded by the 202) and a pair of Senheiser 200 headphones, both came in at around £150 total. I use MediaMonkey to transfer my MP3s to the GMINI. And with a 20GB hard-drive it holds quite a few tracks. I cannot recommend it enough!
The sound quality through the Senheiser head-phones is excellent, and the battery life is fantastic.
Just another recommendation to thow into the mix.

A Google search of comparative reviews suggests that the built in DAC/amp of the Creative Zen players gives the better sound, though players by Apple and iRiver are close. As I said above, if you want the best sound quality then use an external DAC like the battery powered HeadRoom Microdac with the iRiver H140 optical out.
If you are going to listen to MP3 compressed audio files through portable headphones, then any of these players should be fine. I find the biggest reduction in sound quality is traffic noise, anyway!

Nuno, if you want to output the iPod to your stereo then you need to purchase the Dock, (If it did not come with the iPod) this has a Line Out which is far superior to the headphone out when using through a stereo.
The quality of sound through all these MP3 players is largely dependent on the headphones, and is rather a moot point, anyone who believes they will have their home stereo whilst on the move is deluded anyway.

Then Nuno you are very very quickly going to learn that you have purchased the easiest to use MP3 player on the market, you are going to be chuffed walking down the street with your favourite tunes. And let me make a bet with you today, you will not give a shit about ultimate audiophile quality.
How much do you want to bet?

the 20 GB iPOD that is available here is monochromatic! There is any difference in sound quality from the new one that has several colours?I´m not sure but I´ve heard that the old has a better sound quality!

Nuno
Just because it is not color does not mean it is old. If in doubt check out the Apple website. You only need color if you are going to store and view photos on it.
You won't be able to tell the difference is sound quality. Just buy it.

On the other hand Nuno if you get it from the apple store it will be the better colour one with better battery life, if its the mono one you should expect a significant discount, apple stopped making them about 3 months ago.

I tried out my ipod with my Sennheiser 600's last night - I found the sound quality to be pretty good and found myself contemplating binning my main system, getting an i-supply & decent headphone amp!

To avoid later 'regrets' I would make sure that the new iPod comes with the EU minimum 2-year warranty.
Most supplied ear bud headphones are mediocre so here is a place you can experiment to get the best sound out of your new portable set up.

Thanks for correcting me, I didn't realize that Apple had stopped making the mono ones.

It is worth you looking at some ipod user forums. The opinion there is that the colour ipods don't sound so good. Mine seems fine though.

OK ! I think I read something about it,but I don´t remenber where!Do you know some site where I can find a iPOD forum?

Are you related to Mick by any chance?
Oh no, you can't be - he wouldn't have cared about coming across as insensitive.
