Reconditioned Troikas

Posted by: Alex S. on 19 July 2001

Apologies to those who may have read this question elsewhere but since no answers were forthcoming I have turned it into a topic.

I had a Troika and loved it.

I've had mixed reports on rebuilding/retipping Troikas ranging from:

1. Just as good as original Troika
2. Almost as good
3. Not nearly as good
4. Complete waste of time and money

So which is it please?

I recently had a Troika rebuilt by Linn and I thought they did a great job. I also have a Klyde which I've had rebuilt by Linn and then later by Expert Stylus.

I think the ES rebuilt Klyde was better than the Linn rebuilt Troika... but not by much.

When the Troika wears out I will have it rebuilt by Expert Stylus.

ES cost to rebuild a Klyde or Troika is $288 if cantilever and coils are in good shape.

My take is since dealers make no money on rebuilds, they would be the first to discourage doing so. frown

Hey Chris,
Who rebuilt your Troika?
curious...

Regards,
John

I've just lost a long post - I don't know why I don't type in in word and then cut and paste it!

Short version:-

No idea on rebuilt troika : offered cheap goldring rebuild but not sure.

If buying new today would go for aro/dv17II but really prefer ekos but don't like current linn cartridges - and I don't want anyone other than Phil March to sort my TT.
