Steve Hackett

Once of Genesis, went to see him perform live at Holmfirth last Sunday, never really heard his music before, really good, and his new album is superb.
Interesting that Nick Beggs (of Kajagoogoo) was playing bass and Chapman Stick - very talented musician.

James, I saw him a couple of weeks ago and it was superb. I thought Nick Beggs really was outstanding and added a lot of fun.
I have seen Steve many times since the early 80's and I thought this band were one of the best of his groups.
Anyway, he has a great back catalogue so try Voyage of the Acolyte, Defector, Spectral Mornings for starters....

My favourite ex-Genesis member and was lucky enough to see him two nights in a row recently (London & Norwich). Both great shows.
Shame about the hassle he's had in his marital/business life following his divorce from Kim Poor. This is reflected in some of the lyrics on the excellent new album (listen to Emerald & Ash and you will see what I mean).
Try some of his acoustic/classical material too. Shows how diverse he is as a musician.

Glad you like them James. If you want more I have always had a soft spot for Cured (although quite different to others), To Watch the Storms and Please Don't Touch.
Cheers

Hackett is one of my favourites - last saw him at The Stables MK, but missed him this time round. His contribution to Genesis was pivotal IMO, accounting for most of their musical decline since he left.
After he re-jigged a lot of their favourites on Genesis Revisited, I find it difficult to listen to the originals now.
Didn't know about Kim Poor - maybe his CD artwork will be better now
- and there's nothing like a break up for musical inspiration...
Will try the latest CD on that basis alone

Saw Hackett for the umteenth time in Bilston before xmas, but it was the first time I had seen him for sometime and he and the band were superb. I really got the feeling they were enjoying the gig as much as the audience and this really seemed to transmit to the crowd. One of the benefits of smaller venues.
Also have a soft spot for Cured, but don't think any of those songs would fit too well into the new set list.

Is this the “new rock album” mentioned on his website featuring Chris Squire on bass and vocals? Double score!

Yes it is - and Anthony Phillips of Genesis fame guest appears as well. Plus Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo - now that would have never excited me and surprised me if I had been told Nick was on there prior to seeing the concert. But Nick was so impressive live I can see why Steve wanted him in the band.

Anthony Phillips as well? Oh boy, One of the few things I remember about Kajagoogoo was their rather good (if flashy) bass player. IIRC Hackett's regular bass was Chas Cronk (sp) who was none too shabby. This is either going to be a landmark or a giant brick. But definitely worth a punt for me. Hope it's properly engineered and not maxed out. I've probably seen Hackett more times live over the years than any other act. The live box set anthology is a treasure if a bit pricy and the Tokyo Tapes DVD is one of my favourite concerts, not for technical quality or even 100% of the content, but for the magic, atmosphere, interplay and (some) rather good arrangements.

I've been looking at the concert clips on YouTube. They really look in form. So good to see.

I second what Lontano says about this album, I really like it.
