HDX 1.5a FYI/Initial reviews
Posted by: gary1 (US) on 24 March 2010
I just got the latest version of the software and while I haven't gone through everything here are a few things which I noticed and some may be helpful to others.
FYI: I'm not sure if this is universal, but when I download music and then transfer to my NAS (music share, not music store), with the new software the HDX does not recognize the albums. You need to RE-scan (not Host scan) the particular Nas Drive using the DTC. This will force the HDX to update the shared music files. It appears to not re-scan automatically.
The new interface on the HDX screen is much better with the arrows/ABC. I still prefer the scroll on the IPUI, but this has made searching on the HDX screen a breeze and not torture.
Adding album art--> very easy and if you are searching for a jpeg file within an album the software only pulls up the jpeg files and not the tracks within the album.
The software update did eliminate my playlists, I don't know why this wasn't accounted for in the update, but fortunately I only had a few, but if I had alot ....
Shuffle:
Still best to add to playlists in the IPUI and then go to the DTC-->now playing-->shuffle playlist. This will shufffle the playlist on the DTC (and visually change the order) which will then appear on the IPUI (current playlist) in the same order.
If done through the IPUI the same issue still remains as the original software. You see "shuffle mode", the list is actually not shuffled in the "Current playlist, nor on the DTC" and you do not see what the next track is. I didn't get as far as seeing if the shuffle randomly repeated tracks or ended the playlist if it somehow selected the last track in the list as both of these occurred with the original software version.
Not sure why this was not corrected as it really makes no sense to have to continue to use 2 versions of the software to perform this specific task. If you don't use a tablet, pc, and rely on the HDX screen, then it's a bigger problem.
Slight cosmetic changes-- preferred the earlier version
