When does FM stop in the UK?

Or, to put it another way, when will our wirelesses wink cease to be of use?

I recall someone mentioning 2010, but maybe that was for something else.

The only radio I use these days is the little Tivoli Henry Kloss Number 1 - which is a superb wee thing for the money - and so it doesn't matter so much, but it would be nice to know how long we've got left...

"Anyone know if there are plans to make DAB CD quality in the future or are we stuck with it now at MP3 quality ?"

We will be stuck with it while cloth eared Joe Public is happy with the quality of MP3 I suspect. After all, musiccassettes sold well in their hey day inspite of the diabolical quality of the tapes/recording etc.

Also until people stop perpetuating the myth that MP3 is CD quality! (Well its digital isn't it?)!!

I thought 2010 was the original date set for switching off analogue TV. If they did the two (TV and FM) together it would probably be time to head for the nuclear shelters we all built during the Cold War.

(Still using analogue TV service via cable who sees no reason to change - why would I want even more channels to not watch?)

I was told 2015 by a sales person in Sevenoaks, Aberdeen, just a few days ago. I have no idea if this is correct .

And the dates change with them. The original idea was that coverage had to be complete so they could switch off analogue in 2010. However, I understand the BBC hit some kind of major technical hitch which means they won't be able to meet this.

My understanding is that analogue transmissions will continue indefinitely for the time being.

Same week they sell the Dome for a profit, sort out Nats, deliver a world class state education system, fix the railways.......I'll not hold my breath.

I cannot imagine you Brits, taking radio broadcast more seriously than any other country, to step out of FM. Ever.

Cheers,
