England v South Africa - Wanderers (JBH)

Ohh dear looks like an innings+ defeat tomorow

Close on 3rd day
England 48 for 3 (Pietersen 9*, Collingwood 0*)
South Africa 423 for 7 (dec)
England are 195 runs behind

Highveld weather is the usual seasonal thunder storms, but these are usually afternoon events so we can't hope for 2 days of that help.

Kerf - (Afrikaans for snick) pardon, did I hear something ??

Oh well, we lost by an innings & 74 runs
But us plucky brits know how to loose properly with a stiff upper lip, we had lots of practice.

My cell is overloaded with sms's of "kind wishes" & "bad luck old chap" (I don't think so) from my Windhoek guzzling buddies.
They are happy it got wrapped up quickly so as now sunday afternoon is free for a braai without distractions of cricket.

Not good, a complete capitulation and they have chucked away the series. Although it is a series draw it feels like a moral victory for SA.

Not so Chillkram, SA oke's expect to win, a draw is not winning.
But judging by the cell chat this morning, an innings & 74 win makes a series draw just a little sweeter.

I think it has been a great series and the honours are even.
There is a lot of work to do on the technology and the umpiring though.
Although in theory I am in favour of a review system, I think I have now changed my mind. Let's just stick with an umpire right or wrong. It's worked for 300 years.

Did you hear Bob Willis on the subject of Daryl Harper, the problem is not the replay technology, but putting an idiot in front of it.

Times - A right old carry on with Daryl Harper

The system is quite similar to the one used in American Football (NFL), and I think is a good idea, but as someone who has spent years watching TV and film frame by frame for my work, I recognise that understanding slow motion footage is a skill that some lack, and Harper seems to be one of those.

I did enjoy the series, but missed this morning's play, as I had only got to bed at 4.30 am after the NFL playoff games. I did enjoy it though.

Don, do you come over to any games at Headingly? Let me know if you do, it would be lovely to meet up at a game. I am looking forward to sharing a game or two this summer with Markah too.

I couldn't agree more, but the way we played they'd have won even if Smith had been out first ball.
