Locked threads?

Posted by: Tam on 12 May 2006

Recently, there have been one or two old threads in the music room which I've wanted to revive, but I've found them to be locked. Given that there doesn't seem to be a reason for this based on their content, I can only assume the forum automatically locks all threads past a certain age. Is this the case, and if so, what is the time limit?

Dear Tam,

There have been times when I knew I had a Thread, years old, that is as pertinent today as at the time it was wrtten.

I wonder if Adam might be prepared to unlock any uncontentious old Thread that has just been locked as a result of arbitrary time constraints. Next time I will see if anything can be done about it.

There would be a considerable saving on bandwidth if a satisfactory old discussion reapreared only to be added to and continued, rather than more or less restated...

I certainly hope so. You see, what particularly prompted my thoughts about this (in addition to the Brahms thread, where I would much rather have simply added to your old one) was the fact that I have finally relented and ordered Walcha playing both the Goldbergs and the Well Tempered on harpsichord from France. Given your two threads on the subject, I had hoped to be able to add to one or other when they arrive...

Less importantly, I'm also wondering if my Edinburgh thread is going to get locked before the festival comes, and therefore whether I'll have to start another when the time comes.

Dear Tam,

I only hope a nice supplicatory email in the right quarter might possibly get an individual Thread release from the lock.

Threads are closed after 48 days inactivity.

You could e-mail me to re-open but I quite like the eventual automatic death of stale threads.

An alternative would be to start a new, fresh thread - including a link to the original.

Thanks for the clarification Adam.

wouldn't it be much more clever to leave all threads in the music room open?
