Ferry doing Dylan
Posted by: ewemon on 04 March 2007
Did anyone see the Bryan Ferry Live in the Studio show last night doing Dylan covers? Never been a great fan of Bryans but thought he was excellent. I then turned the channel over only to find him playing with a smaller band on another show and again he was excellent.

Yuk! Why would anyone bother to listen to this?

People listen to different bands playing Mozart etc so why not?

Others listen to Charlotte Church and Katherine Jenkins, why so?
PS Your phrase "doing Dylan" may be rather more fitting than you supposed!

Sorry ewemon, I'm with Graham on this one - the very thought of it is dreadful!

FWIW - I'm with Graham too.

I wish I hadn't stumbled on this thread - I'm now imagining Dylan and Ferry getting together to 'sing' a duet...

Nothing new though is it? I seem to recall ferry 'doing' Dylan back in '73 or '74, possibly both.

Tut!! Tut!! lads where is your sense of adventure?

Nothing to get upset about, one singer who can't sing is doing songs by someone else who can't sing.

If it's just a case of who can sing, and who can't - Can I request that Naim commission one or two volumes of 'Katherine Jenkins Performs the Bob Dylan Songbook' ?
I would be prepared to make myself available to supervise / assist in the shooting of the cover photos.

It is if he lets her run with a 30 second head start.

Ha, next you'll be telling me you don't read books written by women either, just on principle.

Just got my copy of this album in the post this morning. Its absolutely dreadful, Ferry is just going through the motions. I am bitterly disappointed. Whatever you may think of his singing abilities, i have always had a high regard for his interpretations of other peoples songs, and his track record with Dylan numbers has been good. His only motivation now, seems to be money, to me there is no sense of emotion or care for the material he is covering. My wife is a life long Dylan fan, and you can definitely say, that she also, was less than impressed.
Shame really, as i had been looking forward to receiving this. Another artist who i wont be buying, unless i hear the album first.
Mike.

Heard the actual disc at a friends last night and honestly wish I hadn't, liked about 3 trax on it and the rest were em!! how could I put it politely, crap. Not the same as the studio mixes.
Glad I didn't buy it.

I loved his version of Hard Rain from many years ago but heard Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues on the radio yesterday and it was absolutely woeful. Maybe the rest of the album is better.

Someone, somewhere must like it! No? Not even a little bit? Perhaps the fading out of the last note part??!!
