Books, First editions

For my birthday last week my wife bought me a real surprise gift; a first edition of Graham Greene's Monsignor Quixote, signed by the author.

I'm delighted with this, Greene is a favourite of mine and it seems really nice to have his signature in the fly. Odd isn't it!

We have bought some pieces of original art over the years by artists of minor note, this book seems like something similar. It has very modest value as an object, but lots of added value to me as its owner.

Anyone else own/collect books like this?

I've got first editions of The 'Human Factor' and 'The Captain and the Enemy'. Also got a signed first edition of 'All The Colours of Darkness' by Peter Robinson.

I was looking at the book "Music in Dreamland: Bill Nelson and "Be Bop Deluxe" (Hardcover)
by Paul Sutton-Reeves (Author) 1st edition but was put off by the hefty price on Amazon: £150 so I bought it from a vendor in the USA and had it delivered to my brother in the USA who brought it over with him..... It's the only first edition I've ever knowingly bought....

A friend said he was given a first edition of Julia Childs' French Cooking book.

Years ago I had a first edition of a woman who made growing orchids understandable, can't remember her name. I sold it on when cleaning out space for more vinyl which gives me more pleasure.
