Stone Roses

I didn't have much interest in them at the time and have always thought them over rated. Got some record vouchers for father's day so bought the anniversary re-release of their first album on vinyl to see what like. Well, it is simply sublime (especially side 2) and I hold my hands up - I have to admit I was wrong about them (well their first LP anyway).

That's interesting Stu - I'll keep my eyes open for their other ones then. Thanks

Correct. There is only one other.... VERY disappointing as well. Maybe it isn't that bad but in the 5 1/2 years it took to come out, people had moved on.
You can only sell so many 12" singles of the same two songs over and over.
The first was such an amazing album.
FYI, a very good friend just got this vinyl anniversary edition and is gushing over it.

It is numbered (816)-was I supposed to get a 7" single too then?

Some places mention a 7" single with it and some don't so not sure.

The 20th anniversary edition did come with a 7" single. Different mastering to the original, and to my ears better.

That first album is so good. The only other one I have heard is second coming which seems to be heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin (Presence in particular). I dont play the second one often but I dont hate it. I dont think there were any other albums as they were in dispute with their record label for the whole of the band's existence.

I really like the second album. The first one is pleasant enough pop-rock but nothing special.

Was Pills and Thrills released on vinyl?? I've been keeping my eyes open for it for some time along with Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos and Beautiful Freaks by Eels (one of the latter on ebay just now is currently at over £70...) Always preferred the Mondays but enjoying the first Stone Roses LP immensely.

Thrills/Pills was available on vinyl (bought at the time), lightweight by comparison to the Roses mind. The more obscure Roses compilation albums are worthwhile IMO, the 10th anniversary 2xcd is worth it as well.

It's worth looking out for ORE 2LP 502 -the 2x 45rpm vinyl edition of the first album released some time ago.
