Does the build up to Christmas start too early?
Posted by: Aiken Drum on 30 November 2006
In my view it does. I much prefer the tradition of the Christmas tree and decorations going up 12 days before Christmas and coming down 12 days afterwards.
Locally shops and houses have been sporting Christmas decorations since mid November. As for the TV, 'nuff said.

Steve,
I dont think I am anti-west per se, far from it. I am however anti certain aspects of western politics etc. I don't think I am anti-Christianity per se either - I have many dear Christian friends and my fiance is a devout Catholic and I have been to mass with her and enjoyed it. I dont try to convert her and she knows better than to try to convert me. We get on famously. I do like a robust discussion and I do like to burst a few balloons.

I take it that whatever your belief system is Acad, understanding and respect of others isn't a part of it. It's lucky you don't claim to be a Buddhist then.

Rasher,
I dont claim any belief system and Im not batting for Buddhism or any other religion. James made a truly outragoeous comment typical of hypocritical Christians so I have challenged him to back it up as I dislike hypocrasy. I think if you read carefully the disrespect comes from James whose personal sarcasm is plain to see. Please note he has not as yet backed his comments up but I have back my views up by listing a whole bunch of books (all of which I have read). I always back my statements up. Please show me where I have been disrespectful and I will show you where the real disrespect lies - it lies with a god that destroys his own creation with plagues and floods and pestilince and takes sides in the wars of man and a church that teaches only the believers will be saved (a believer is one who attends church and contributes to its funds)and all non-believers (those who dont contribute to the church's funds)will go to hell. Why is the church not protesting about the war in Iraq? Do we see the Archbishop of Canterbury leading thousands of vicars down Whitehall to protest at the 750,000 people killed in Iraq? Dont talk to me about disrespect. You toddle off to the cinema and watch the Nativity film with your children and tell yourself you are a good father while I go on protest marches, attend meetings and stand on street corners giving out information and collecting signatures for petitions and organise fund raising events and badger MPs to do something other than sit on their self serving arses. Have you written to your MP about murdering in Iraq? Dont talk to me about understanding and respect.
