Ab Smile lish Council Poll tax, charge more for double glazing, and a special tent tax for homeless folk forced on the road through debt, which they can pay in installments.

Aye, and tax all those tree huggers that heat their homes with solar energy. It's only fair - they're effectively tax dodgers! Wink

Foamingatthegills'innit.

I think double glazing tax would work. Wink

Why not have a willy tax based on the length of your willy. Then no one would undervalue their taxable assets!

Or perhaps a turnip tax based on the size of your turnips!

A limb tax is clearly the fairest form of taxation.

Some argue that it might cost an arm and a leg but quite frankly these extremist scaremongers don't have a leg to stand on.

How about a brain cell tax Jeremy,

I think I would be due a refund!

A window tax has been applied before. In Georgian times apparently, lead to dramatic changes in architecture.

One would imagine when the hypocrytical hysteria has subsided, and it's re-packaged in a friendly way, "Rastafarian's Old Holborn" will be a luvvly jubbly little earner for the Crown revinue when fags are gone, innit.

I thought they gave up on the idea of poll tax in England years ago after the idea was mooted with less than favourable results ?

In NZ, local councils tax you depending on the "government valuation" of your house. So 12 people in a $400,000 house pay $100 and 2 people in a $1,000,000 house pay $2000 a year each. Mmm.

Yeah - I think a poll tax should be brought back. Unfortunately it won't stop people who scrounge for free already having yet more kids... Cough cough. At least then if you must have a big family, you have to pay for it rather than expect someone else to help out with the food bills....

Window taxation did indeed happen. You should see the number of houses in Exeter with walled-up windows; why have a naturally lit hallway when bricking the window up and using candles is cheaper??

Local income tax. Why not?

Why not base it on something objective? Like habitable floor area for example? Or, indeed, the number of windows!

Its been tried before and all that happened was everyone bricked up their windows!

Don't know about floor area but if the poll tax were reintroduced then many would be "brinking it" for sure. . . .

Education generally accounts for over 50% of the budget of local authorities derived from council tax.

So, why not make educational funding and highway maintenace national concerns paid directly from income tax?

The remaining budget would mean that council tax bills could then be cut by around 70%.

Had Thatcher not got her sums wrong rearding how much people were going to have to pay, the Poll Tax would probably have survived.

The problem with just allowing local councils to charge on a percentage basis, based on income would be that some councils would charge a higher percentage than others.

Regards,

Steve.
