Hi-Cap Re-Caps

Posted by: David Stewart on 11 January 2002

I'd like to seek some expert advice from out there in Naimland. How do you know if a PSU needs re-capping? Is there a finite number of years after which it should be serviced, or does it depend on how much use it has had and do prolonged periods of non-use affect the equation at all??

Hello David,

All psu's and power amps need re-capping about 7 to 10 years approx. Also as i understand it, periods of non use does not effect this.

Also look at this thread : http://forums.naim-audio.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=67019385&f=48019385&m=5191999073

Hope this helps.

An FYI

The large capacitors inside Naim Power Supplies and Power Amps have the Year and Week No. of their manufacture printed on them, eg 9834.

Now if you are wondering whether that second hand power-amp you bought from eBay/Loot etc. really was "recapped in 1998", you can check. smile
