Always been a big fan of industrial music, noise, dark ambient and grindcore, but having heard an episode of the Hour of the Apocalypse on Resonance FM about Sunn O)))) I’m finding myself exploring the various Doom sub-genres. All I can say is wow. I was happy with my system but now I’m not so sure – this music really is a proper test. Listening to so much reggae I had suspicions that maybe I would need a sub-woofer, not being able to afford DBLs. But really Drone Doom is amazing – played properly it sounds like a B52 taking off. Ultimate slow, grinding, riffs, enough to shake your house apart. And if you listen to Blackened Doom or Epic Doom you have high-pitched screeching on top. A lot of it is still released on LP or double 12” as well. If Naim really want to show off their systems they should ditch those dreary Anthony Forcionni test records and use Earth, Eyehategod, Thergothon or Sunn O))).

I have one Sun O))) CD - but I'm too scared to play it!

By the way, if you like epic drone, you really must hear Eliane Radigue. I have Adnos I-IV (four CDs) and Trilogie de la Morte (three CDs) and both are excellent.

Regards
Nigel
