About amps: Tempory solution or permanent?
Posted by: okyknot on 11 February 2004
Greetings,
I just received a used 202. I am going to hook it up to a Flatcap 2, and Nait 5 (as power amp).
I would like to eventually get a NAP 200. My question is this: I can sell the Nait and buy a NAP 150 for about the same money, would this be a worthwile step, or should I just use the Nait until funds allow the purchase of NAP 200?
Is the NAP 200 a major improvement over the NAP 150?
Rest of system:
CD5
Stageline
NAT 05
Rega P25
Thanks for any help.
Dan

I don't know the answer to your question, but I couldn't help but notice that there is a 150 for sale on audiogon for very cheap (asking $750). I have no relation to him at all, but that is a great price.

Hello Dan,
Personally I would say if you want a 200 wait and buy it rather than losing money buying and selling a 150. [Although I have seen the concept of 'free hi-fi' on Pink Fish Media which says that you can buy something really old and it's resale value won't drop].
I would also look at a second-hand 250.
Personally I have never tried to have a balanced system -- as things wear out / I have spare cash / etc. -- I buy the best I can afford since I expect to upgrade the rest of the system eventually.
Hope this helps ...

Hi Vaughn,
That is the exact amp I am thinking of buying. It will probably go soon. My rationale is I could probably sell my Nait 5 for about $900, get the 150 for $750, use it until I purchase 200 or even possibly 250. I may go make an offer on it. Thanks

Dan...small world. Did you make a bid on the 150? How did it turn out?
Which speakers are you using?

Vaughn,
Speakers are Neat Petite. I have contacted seller, still thinking about it. I really don't know how my Nait 5 will do as an amp, if it would be ok until NAP 200, that is the real objective. I will give it some serious thought today.
