Prefix "K" versus "K" Board

Posted by: JosephR on 24 September 2001

Can anyone shed light on what the major difference will be from moving to a Prefix "K" from the normal "K" board on my 52 ? Will it be worth the extra cost ?

BTW, I find the "K" boards on either my old 72 or 52 really superb - for it's price, a giant killer at least in my system - tried the following and IMHO, forget them -> EAR, Lehmann Black Cube, DACT, Acoustech, Klyne System 7, etc ...

Cannot recall the merits of the K to Prefix K upgrade (senile brain). Can say however that there is a significant compromise in quality if the Prefix is powered from the 52. I use a Hicap and have hear others say the Supercap is wondrous(and also woundrously expensive?)

Yes indeed, I found that out the hard way ... The high-output Dyna 10x4 worked extremely well with the NAC72 "K" boards, but too much for the 52 "K" board.

And moving from internal boards in a 52 to a prefix is a very cost effective upgrade indeed!

Would yu care to share what I would expect moving from the "K" board to the Prefix ?

Does this mean that the "K" board is better then than a Prefix "K" being powered by the 52 ? Or maybe the Prefix better but not by much unless Hi- or Supercapped ?
