Spotted you were havingthe 100amp mains fuse upgrade done. Any chance you can tell me how long it took to do the job, how long your leccy was off for etc? Just I'm having mine done tomorrow and the lady at nPower couldn't answer any of that!
Oh and most importantly what difference it made.
Cheers

From the main cable coming into the house I found a set of boxes that had electricty board paper seals on it, as well as a wire seal. This has leads going into the meter.
Within this there is an oblong box about 3 inches high by one wide with a lid on the front with one of the paper seals on it. At the bottom of this lid I found "60A" in very small writing.

On my current overload protection device (note not using the F word) it has the text
100A
printed on it - which I assume indicates the load capacity.
If your house is recent it has a good chance of already having a 100A f*** - our house was built in 1978
Take a look in your meter cupboard

Mick, as far as I know, if your house is more than a few years old, say 10/15 years it will have the old type of 60 amp f--e,have a look at the mains f--e board, if the sealed f--e holder is about 6" x 4" and black, chances are it will be the old type with 60 amp a f--e.
The New type of f--e holder seems to be made of a plastic type of material is smaller and uses a cartridge type of f--e and is labled with it's value, hope this helps or get along to your favourite L---e grasp the first person firmly by the hand and ask is there a sparky in the house and I'm sure they will help a fellow traveller so to speak
All the best,

I will give this a go.
Before I waste anyones time, it is best I find out what size incoming fuse I have got.
How do I do that ?

Fritz Von Take a candle any old candle, light it, and check the gas pipe in the cellar, but be careful because as you know heat sinks !

I couldn't find any sign of the rating on my fuse. I don't think it was possible to tell without opening stuff up (no way I would do that!). Also nPower couldn't tell me on the phone either - so I just booked them in. They gave me a 2 hour slot of 8 till 10 and the chap was there bang on 8 - and took ten mins to do the job. definitely worthwhile but I need to spend more time listening to quantify exactly how much better ('more'!) it is.
Cheers

Oldie - did your fuse upgrade come with a free time machine as well? That's a helluva lot of music you listened to in a short space of time
Seriously I've just listened to a few bits and pieces again and I am definitely pleased with the fuse change. Everything is clearer, more emotive and just more enjoyable. Difficult to quantify by how much still - need to listen more tomorrow (and include some Jarrett in that!)
Cheers

An old retired British General I used to know once said to me Graham, 'there's music coming out of the cold water tap in my bathroom!', to which I replied, 'I think it's your plumbing Sir '(honnest), he didn't blow a fuse or a gasget for that matter, but knew a good sense of humour when he met one, innit.

Rich,
you may have gathered or not from previous postings that I am now one of the grey pound brigradelike Mick[only he's one of the grey £10 pound brigade ], not by choice you understand the usual thing ,new broom etc but I don't want to go over old grounds and open old wounds. But I do have a fair amount of time on my hands so to speak. I must admitt though, I only played a track or two from each Cd, just enough to remember what it sounded like before. The variety and number was primarily so that I had a fair sample of sound, and didn't confuse what I wanted to hear, with what I actully heard. Too many years in Industry tends to make you a bit [too] analytical about these things.
I hope your next listening period proves to you ,you have done the right thing, and at the price it can't be bad

Having had a look at the distribution board at home, I have found it must date back to WW2. I'm on the phone tomorrow.
I thought my system was sounding pretty damn good lately, so I can't wait to hear what this brings.

Chaps
I think I am ok.
There is a big thick cable coming out the ground which goes into a sealed box which measures say 4"x1.5"x3". Two cables (red and black) come out of the other end this box and go into the meter.
The sealed box has 100 amp stamped on it. I presume that I am ok.
My house was built in 1978 but I have a distant recollection of the meter being upgraded or replaced some years ago.
Regards
Mick.....always at the forefront of technology blah blah blah.

Nice to know that you have the best supply, but also nice to know that there is something extra to come for free.
I don't really know what I wanted to find when I looked.

Oh Boy!!
Not only are they going to change the fuse, they are going to change the whole unit, to 100 amp.
All brand new stuff should sound pretty special.

Mick,
I shall chose to ignore your post script due mainly to the fact that I know you have spent most of your time "working" sorry, occupying an office in the company that is the most backward, Dinosaur like organisation, that ever graced the face of this planet
At the forefront of technology, Huuuh!!

Your information is as outdated as your politics.
The Post Office now has the best delivery service in Europe (verified by independant audit)as well as being one of the cheapest and is due to make a £500 million profit by the end of the year.
You call that a dinosaur ?
