Peeping Tom film

Posted by: graham55 on 14 October 2005

This infamous Michael Powell film is being shown on ITV late tonight. The lead is played by Carl Boehm (son of the late Austrian conductor Karl Boehm).

The character he plays has an unfortunate tendency to kill young ladies in a particularly gruesome fashion. BUT he does have Quad ESL57 loudspeakers in his flat.

Has Naim equipment ever featured on the silver screen?

Big Grin

Like a modern day Western, the simple morality of Hifi...

White Hat = Naim System
Black Hat = (Linn?) System

How fitting.

What's more chilling for me was '10 rellington place'...

Not quite sure that I see the connection between serial murderers, Linn Products, ESL57s and black or white stetsons, but the film starts in just over an hour.

Do watch, it's a freaking classic. (As are the ESLs!)

Dredging deep into the memory banks, I think it was a Roksan, certainly was a big lump of wood. Happy to be corrected though.

Wasn't there are Rega turntable in that Mel Gibson film where he can hear Women's thoughts, 'What Women Want' or something like that?

I think there is a Michell Gyro or Orbe in Clockwork Orange, just before the main chap bludgons the lady of the house to death. It seems that owning top quality hifi is a dangerous past time!

The Morse tournedisque was definitely a Roksan Xerxes.

Dodgy memory of an early Comic Strip Presents take off of Spinal Tap called 'Bad News Tour' with Naim in some geezer’s bedroom. Not quite silver screen though.

Noticed in the Bill and other Brit shows the boxes are always stacked on top of each other.

In the film "24 Hour Hour Party People", the hilarious story of Tony Wilson and Factory Records, there's a scene where Wilson, who has just spent anout £30K's worth of New Order's money on a boardroom table, plays a tape of he new Happy Mondays album (sans vocals). The amps are Naim.

In the first Tomb raider film there is a scene set in the main hall of her residence where the bad guys pop in for a visit, maybe to see the Clearaudio? TT.

Seems that a having a chunky turntable in your abode in a film seems to be the modern equivalent of having a reel-to-reel in films from the 60s ...

It was a Hydraulic Reference turntable developed by David Gammon in 1964.

J. A. Michell was involved in the making of the models for 2001: A Space Odyssey.
