Howlin Wolf on Shindig

Some of you will have guessed that I am a great lover of the Blues. Have a look at this clip on this link. Scroll down the page, it is on the right hand side. Howlin Wolf- How Many More Years.

It is of Howlin Wolf on his only TV appearance in '65. The two young white guys kneeling and swaying at his feet are Brian Jones and Mick Jagger. Paying tribute to one of their heros and if you watch the clip you will understand why.

To say he strips the paint from the walls would put it mildly. It's a wonder they didn't call out the fire brigade to hose the place down. Stunning.

Wonderful. The Wolf is my favourite blues artist without doubt. A unique performer with a unique voice. Listening to him performing 'Evil' was when I first moved into appreciating the 'real' blues as opposed to the 'white boy blues' of Clapton etc.

Just realised that the third guy swaying beside him is Keith Richards.

Superb, not often that you see the (star) pupils sitting at the feet of the master. Just on that. Dig up a copy of the London Howlin Wolf sessions (there's a chess remaster out). Homage being paid by many artists (Clapton, Winwood, Wyman,Charlie Watts)to the Wolf. Some of the conversations around the music are insightful. And the music sublime.
All hail the man who gave me my name.

Yes, great record. I particularly enjoy listening to the rehearsal for Little Red Rooster.
