Fantastic site for finding new music

Posted by: Gary S. on 08 November 2006

If like me you like to seek out new artists, try giving Pandora.com a try.

My son introduced me to this, apparently he and his mates often use it during IT lessons at school - I'm glad our taxes are being put to good use!

Basically the site uses something called the Music Genome Project. You select an artist who's music you like and after it has played you one of their tracks, it proceeds to play you random tracks from artists with similar styles.

You have to go to "Create a new station" and type in your chosen artist. When you find something you like you can click on the artist, track or album to get further details, there are also links to amazon etc.

Have a play with it...I've found some great new tunes by using it.

Regards

I use Pandora, and it has led me to some interesting finds.

I also use Allmusic.com to research artists and music. Allmusic lets you play samples of chosen tracks, which is very handy.

I use the www.allmusic.com site very often and I highly recommend it to any of you exploring music. It has provided me with valuable information about music that I have not heard before.

They tend to be very balanced and give their due to top ten popular acts as well as Sun Ra or Cecil Taylor. They give good reviews of obscure and hard to find albums as well for those of us (like me) who like music from 1965-1975 but didn't get to hear this music when it first came out.

their music licence doesn't allow them to broadcast music outside of the USA yet; thus, one needs to provide a US zip code for registration.

Just find a zip code and enter it.Any friends in the US? Find the address of a MaccyD or Disneyworld.
