Nait 5 Problem

Posted by: alex95 on 22 October 2003

When I connected my Nakamichi tape deck to my Nait 5 using the TAPE input, nothing happened, when I selected TUNER I could listen, but my SACD player is connected to TUNER. Also when the tape deck is connected to any input and I want to listen to CD or SACD the sound is muted compared to when the tape deck is disconnected.
Anyone able to shed some light on this.
Thanks
Spence

Look like your tape input/output plugs are reversed.

I have a similar problem. Whenever I plug my TV/DVD player into the tape input, two things happen. First, the volume on that input is much lower. I have checked the input sensitivity levels, and everything is normal. The other issue is that whether or not that input is selected, as long as I have something plugged into it, I get huge amounts of hum and hiss through the speakers. You can hear it from across the room. As soon as I unplug from that input (again, whether selected or not) the hum goes away.

These are little gremlens I'm finding with the nait5. I wonder if things improve if I move it all away from the TV.

For the hum from the TV, it can come from the Cable TV input. Use a ground isolator, available at Radio Shack for 10$. Or ground the outer shell of the F plug at the TV cable input.
To be sure, just disconnect the coax cable at the TV or at the wall plate.

Alex,

change your interconnect cable which you are using for connecting Nakam deck, or reconnect leads which comes to din connector in a right way.

Emmanuel - that earth loop device doesn't always work - it didn't solve (admittedly VERY low level) "treble click" hum from my AV amp - whether the telly was connected to the aerial or not. In fact - the ground loop isolator actually made the hum FAR worse! A waste of £25 if ever I saw it....

So results may well vary.
