Multiroom Usage for Naim equipment

Posted by: rael on 06 August 2003

I know I have touched on this subject in a previous thread, however I am very interested to know the full range of options available to use naim equipment to best effect between 2 adjacent rooms, where there is a route for cables.

My system will be CDXII/XPS2/252/300/SCII/AV2/NAPV145/NAP150, one room will be the main room used for music and AV and the secondary room for music only. I would if possible like to utilise the NAC252/300 in both rooms as opposed to adding a substandard integrated amp in the secondary room, with the result of substandard sound quality.

I tend to use both rooms an equal amount for music, the secondary room more at night as it is internal to the house, so protection from the neighbours.

Note : I would not necessarily need to use the system in both rooms simultaneously, although it would be preferable as I may need to use AV and music system at the same time.

The options I can think of are as follows -

1/ use a switch between the pairs of speakers ( Not Recommended due to likely degredation in sound )

2/ Buy an integrated amplifier such as the Nait05 and connect to the Record output of the 252 ??

I would be interested to hear anyone who has had a simliar dilemma.

I have a bedroom right in back of my living room set up and wanted music ported in there, and my dealer frowned on using a switch. He figured if he soldered two pairs of wires together (Naca5) to be inserted into the 150 amp I could get two rooms with sound. I have Spendor speakers that are very efficient and the bedroom ones are quite small.

Now late at night when I can't sleep I can put on a CD, unplug one wire from each of my living room speakers and have sound in just the bedroom and I don't disturb my neighbors. Also good for Barry White recordings and an unsuspecting partner for my love nest. But it is usually when I can't sleep at 2 AM that I use it.

I sure would love to hear a 252 someday. I have the lowly 92R, but love it better than any other gear I've had in the past.
