New 24/96 Squeezebox ?
Posted by: AS332 on 28 June 2009
Just been reading somewhere else ( No links, don't want to break rules ) that the new Squeezebox Touch is to be released soon that has a 4.3 inch screen and supports sampling rates up to 24/96 . Could be an interesting development , I wonder if Sonos have anything up there sleeve ?

What I can't understand is that they still come out with 24/96 equipment and not 24/192.
There is already 24/192 music available and the technology is also already there so why still go for surpassed standards?

Aleg ,
Probably because logitech are more mass market than high end ?
But as you say , if you are going to take a step why not go the whole way ?

I should say that I posted this as a hopeful sign that mass market manufactures making Hi-Def compatible devices may deliver more music sites for High-Def , rather than a direct Naim link .

Probably because 192 is just one upsmanship. The sample rate is no longer the weak link after 96.

I haven't had the opportunity to hear them side by side, but e.g. 2L records of Norways are producing BluRays with 24/192 recordings.

Will they ever update the Transporter hardware - its a great music streamer, but with Sean Adams' departure I wonder if this will be Logitech's only attempt at high end audio?

That is what I was wondering as well. From my understanding, the Transporter was very much a brainchild of Sean with a committee of forum members making various advised/suggestions. I think in fact he hired one of the forum embers for that project.
Unless they hire a visionary audiophile designer, this really sounds like a one off thing.
Which is too bad, if only Naim would use the Slim software platform....

Agreed - It's why I never bought an HDX - I am however actively considering the new DAC after I heard it last week

Me too, and the news of 24/96 SB at a modest price will throw the cat amongst the pigeons as well.

Dave, would that be for the Transporter? I would be very interested to see if the Naim DAC could oneup the Transporter.

I plan to audition the new DAC at home to compare it with the Transporter. I will be upgrading my speakers first, but the DAC will be next on my list in early 2010.
