The Exploding Hearts - RIP
Posted by: Willito on 20 August 2003
Based on a suggestion from Mr. Robinson on a thread a few weeks ago, I picked up a copy of the Exploding Hearts' album Guitar Romantic. It is absolutely fantastic, exploding (no pun intended) with energy. While clearly schooled in old skool punk, the sound is fresh. On the whole, a great album to show off your system's PRAT.
Sadly, however, I've learned that the majority (three out of four) of the band were killed recently in a traffic accident. I will refrain from any maudlin observations on this point, suffice to say that the loss of young life is a tragedy.
The album is a little hard to track down, but imho it is worth seeking out a copy.

I second that. It's become my favorite album this summer. Start to finish, it's a fun and memorable record.
Regarding the accident, I suggest you don't do what I did and that was read some of the posts by friends and family memberes on the Dirtnap site. Very sad.

Willito, Ludwig,
I was going to start a thread on this but figured there was only myself and Eric listening to this album. It does of course go without saying that this was indeed a very sad accident particularly after producing a debut album that was an instant classic and promised so much. Just a wonderful, wonderful album that has not only been played to death (The White Stripes? Pah! Do me a favour) all Summer but is without doubt destined for my Top 5 year end list.
It is with a little embarrasment that not only does this record make me dance around the flat doing the air guitar thing but I shall also reveal shamfacedly that I have been known to do some fairly flamboyant choregraphed moves along the lines of:
"Well it makes me shiver
It makes me shake,
You wanna give, give, give,
But I don't wanna take,
I'm getting Modern...
<Does extravagent kick exactly on snare hit>
...Kicks"
<Mimes guitar solo whislt mounting foot on the sofa in the time honoured style of stage edge monitor>
No consolation I know but crashing the tour bus on a mountain pass whilst driving between sweaty midweek gigs in tiny clubs is at least a very rock and roll way to check out.
They will be missed.
