By the weekend I should have the following up and running:
lp12/ekos/linto/dynaventor xx-2
252/supercap
300/300ps
B&W 805 sigs
Can't wait!
For those interested parties I'll post a review once it's burned in some.

Tom,
Am replacing 72/90/hi-cap, keleidhs and old lingo for new. We were f*^ced over by a plumber last July who managed to flood half the house whilst repairing a shower. Thank goodness for insurance. I'm obviously adding some cash of my own! My LP12 was relatively unaffected - only the plinth needed replacement (black for trendy new maple).
Looking forward to the weekend - our 3 week old son is going to be introduced to music big time.

Is there a reason why you did not elect to go with Prefix, which would only constitute an incremental expense compared to the list price of everything else. Unless of course you don't like to hear Radio Moscow superimposed on your favorite LPs

At last! You've given me a good reason to get a Prefix
Alex
PS Dobbin and family, enjoy! (Looks like a Grahams purchase?)

Will you become a "Graham's customer of the year" and add a supercap to power your prefix

The 805 sigs to the ordinary 805's? and if so how much better were they?
Not that I am going to upgrade as speakers are the last thing on the list for me, I'll have to get my CDS3/552 and 500 first.

Before finally choosing said system I listened to the following:
Wilson Benesch Arcs in Naim based system
ProAc Studios (can't remember which one) in Naim and Chord based system
Linn Espek in Linn based system (Klimax Twin included)
Chord integrated amp with Wilson Arcs
Settled on the Naim for a number of reasons but mainly musicality and the fact that if I want to change/add/upgrade my gear will have a good residual value and that 2nd hand kit is (in my experience) always a rock solid buy.

May well have been a Grahams purchase, but it seems not all of the testing could have been done there Alex.
Dobbin - can you give me the details of your plumber- I think its about time to put a new radiator in right next to the hifi.

Plumber was from:
Belling Appliances Ltd
Talbot Road
Mexborough
South Yorkshire
S64 8AJ
I used the helpline number in the brochure to get then do do the work rather than trust to the Yellow Pages - how foolish I was.
He came to service a Berry shower (crap!) and failed to turn off the mains supply. When he went to disconnect the solenoid (made of nylon) it sheared off under the water pressure. For over 2hrs water flooded our house. He had no key to turn off the supply at the main and just stood there like a prick. My wife (6 months pregnant at the time) attempted to save the hi-fi - alas she failed! By the time I drove from Southampton to Guildford the water level was something to behold. Bellings refused to accept liability and I was forced to claim on my home insurance. Total claim including new ceilings, hi-fi, carpets, redecoration etc amounted to some £20,000.00 or so. The final work was completed on the day my wife gave birth.
The plumber was a total wanker and we haaaaateee him soooooo much! Thanks to Bellings my wife' pregnancy was less that the stress free idyll which it should have been. However on the up-side we now have a freshly decorated home and tonight a new sound system.
Here's looking forward to stress free 2003!

Hi Dobbin
If I read this correctly, the firm that make the stuff sent their own plumber or one they recommend to repair their kit and knackered your house? How the hell can they deny responsibility? This would appear to be a case of vicarious liability; ie he works for them and so they carry the can. If he does not work for them but is retained by them, there may be a de facto partnership, which is defined as two or more persons working together with a view to profit.
And what about distress to your wife?
Still jealous of the system, mind....

Wow! a wife who tries to save your Naim system has her priorities right, and while pregnant.
I vote her wife of the year!

All was plugged in the Friday b4 xmas - unfortunately Naim shipped the wrong cable to connect the 252 to the Supercap so it was all a bit of an anti-climax!
Posted on: 01 January 2003 by Wolf
I would think that it would be a double climax to later plug your supercap into the sistem. I bet the sound is dynamic. Tell us about it.

Rock and Roll
Well it's done - a new cable, new speaker cable (the old stuff had oxidised), my mana gubbins 'retuned' and boy did we have some fun over Xmas.
I'm not going to get all Hi-fi review like so suffice to say that the overall feel of the system has improved beyond what I imagined. Clarity detail and depth are all superb. Vocals jump out of the end of the room.
I'll never watch TV again!
