Oh WOW.

I have lots of versions of The Messiah, this is without doubt THE BEST for me.

When the tenor opens the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end, really tremendous stuff.

Recorded with period instruments it has a clarity that is wonderful, especially with this standard of singing and muscianship.

The Linn site is easy to navigate and use.

Messiah: Totally agree (I have the SACD). Some reviewers miss the scale of a large "modern" orchestra, but not me.

Notes:
To those of us of a certain age the Cowboy Junkies - Trinity Sessions is a well known LP.

I have downloaded some files from archive.org in the past, but thought I'd repeat the process for this brief review. These are generally bootlegs from live concerts, but I believe there is no issues in downloading these for personal use, but WHY you'd want to is the question!

This is the third time I've had a go, but the experience has been consistent - spend some time getting the files and then listen to a poor recording where all the distractions have been captured in amazing clarity, while the musicians form an interesting backdrop to the sounds of coughing and doors slamming.

There MAY be some reasonable recordings on the site, if so please recommend away, I haven't been fortunate to date.

REAL shame.

I'm afraid not. They only have 24/88.2 kHz.

Yes, live music can be an acquired taste - and tends to sort systems that can and systems that cannot quite quickly.

Although this might not be your taste in music, if you find it a poor recording you might want to look at your kit:
