ULTIMATE INTERCONNECTS

Posted by: RICHYH on 10 October 2003

I have Phono outputs on my Well Tempered which go to my Tom Evans Groove PLus which leads to my 552, Iam currently using Linn Leads- sounds good but I'm sure there is better. What are peoples recomendations to go ot and from the Phono stage to the 552 (preferable able to use with 5pin din pre amp end)

The best results I have had for similar configurations (e.g Groove/52, Groove/252, Groove/552) have been with a standard Chord Anthem into a Mayware adaptor through a DIN input on the preamps. I've tried a couple of other interconnects including Chord Signature and in my view the anthem is still the best.

I know the new preamps have RCA inputs too, and they're good, but they're not quite as good as the DIN input in terms of timing. I have done the A/B of that. Amazingly the Mayware adaptor works very well. The 2-phono->DIN version of the anthem is nowhere near as good as the RCA-RCA with the Mayware. The standard anthem has a 3-way plait of cables per channel, whereas the 2phono->DIN version only has 2 - I think this contributes to its lesser performance.

Dear Frank, Are they the locking kind and where does one get hold of such Mayware adapter? Thanks!

Mat

They are not the locking kind. Several dealers sell them. I believe Veda distributes them in the UK. I'm sure they must be available elsewhere. The Mayware is a hardwired adaptor and note that they're are incorrectly marked (so the L actually connects to the right channel and vice versa).

They're also cheap at around £10.
