I'm sure this has been answered somewhere ...

... but why can't I delete my posts? I did one on the Goodnight Irene thread and wanted to delete it as Kuma had made the same point (only much better), as I discovered a couple of minutes after my post.

But I'm not permitted to edit/delete my posts, apparently. What gives?

You can edit for some 40 minutes but (as part of the settings that allow this time limit to be imposed) you cannot delete.

Solution - edit down to "*" and I will delete for you if/when I see it.

Why can't you edit after 40 minutes? Think about it.
Think about it again.

That suposed to be an answer?
It's fine if you a) see a mistake or don't wish to append to a post. Why 40 mins why not 40 hrs, 40 days what difference does it make?

Other fora seem to have a more lax/trusting attitude to this. A smell chucker would be good two.

Obviously the encouragement to thought will not help all members.

If you can alter a post at any point of its life - moderation for content becomes impossible. I find it more sensible to impose a window on editing – rather than relinquish all control over posts.

Markus.
Just think if we all would start editing and changing our post simultaneously for days and days!
