Dido - New Al***

Posted by: long-time-dead on 02 October 2003

Since the "non-red book" problem looks as though it is not going to go away, I thought I would like to share this one with you all.

http://www.playserver4.com/play247.asp?pa=mchp&page=title&r=CD&title=127529

Play.com have this one clearly listed as a CD - yet the disk is copy-protected an is therefore not a CD.

Sale Of Goods Act anyone ????

Disclaimer : I do not own the new Dido album and have no desire to. I record this as I recently posted a thread about Miles Davies !! BTW - bought Kind Of Blue earlier Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Ok - so shoot me but I purchased this.
There is no copy protection on it, and I got it from play.com
IMO by the way this cd isn't as good as her 1st...

Andy,

I admire your honesty for admitting to this, but I fear the weight of the fora are againist you here?

I was wondering about this disc because at Amazon it says that it is a copy protected cd and on Play there is no mention of it.so I bought it from Play and it plays on my cdx perfectly.so are there two versions or what?

Trevor.

Ok Guys - let's get back to tht thread and stop kicking the "L" into Dido Wink

Does the fact that the Play.com version seem to be a CD whilst the Amazon one seems to be Copy-Protected suggest that non-UK CD's escape the protection issue ?

If so, how lucky can we be !

And let's stop knocking Dido - she's probably a better singer than us and probably earning shed-loads of money more than us too !!!

They were talking about the latest Dildo album yesterday on Radio 5 Live. They said it was for people who didn't really like music and bought probably only 2 cd's a year. They called her "the Ford Focus of music". They had to make a public apology later Big Grin

Because it was unnecessarily harsh on Ford? Serously though why should they need to apologise for stating their opinion?

David,
Ta!
Seriously tho I'd say it came way short of the 1st CD. It will be one of those that ends up in the midst of others that will never get played.... Never mind...
On the CD copy protection issue I've posted on this before. CD-WOW are the main culprits- I had 4 in a row from them that were protected which resulted in me getting the PIC mod for my 3.5 (Don't have this issue now as I have a CDX2...
Play.com seem to come from Canada (an assumption based on checkng the cd copyright etc on the booklets) - don't know if that has any relevance

Nick, you only like Dido in that cool I-appriciate-all-kinds-of-art bollocks.

Be honest how often do you play the first Dido album?

I bought it, luckily we were ale to shift it very quickly for a birthday present, she is to all intents and purposes talentless.

I heard this dido tune farting out the radio for the last month thinking it was her old tunes, later found its a new single!

I think it was metro magazine that likened her to a floating poo that you just can't get rid of. Nice summary!

I unwittingly bought the copy-protected version this week.

I'm glad I didn't notice the copy-protected sticker on it at the time or I wouldn't have bought it.

My unmodified CDX plays it perfectly and it's a fantastic album. The title track (3) and track 11 are the best, imho, but tracks 5,6,7 and 8 are also rather good.

I don't like the first track though - the one that's in the charts.

I've got her last (first) album too and I prefer this one, but then the novelty hasn't yet worn off.

Regards,

Steve.

The Bard of Birkenhead once sang:

"Mary or Mary,
Quite ordinary,
Tell me how does your CD collection grow?
With Sade and Whitney, Vandross and T'Pau
Everything's AOR"

A comtempoary version of this list would surely include Dido. I imagine her albums come pre-fitted in new Barratt homes.
