Davy Crockett and other fads

Still listening to my recently acquired British Hit Parade CDs. Today's 4 were 1956 Part 1.
I'd forgotten how many versions of Davy Crockett there were. Anybody else remember pestering their mum for a Davy Crockett hat? My mum made me one, because she couldn't afford to buy one. I remember being told to take it off in school ... Roll Eyes ... rotten old schoolteacher. Any other kiddy fashion victims out there?

I also remember at age 7 running around the woods near Higham (Lancashire) while visiting my grandma - bow and arrow in hand, singing "Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen ..." Winker

yeah that was when youth market was exploding. Batman and westerns. We loved in a wooded area in suburbs in Philly, running thru the woods or following a creek near me was a great day.

Not an answer to your question - sorry - but a reply to say that I, too, have this collection (but not for much longer) along with 1956 pt 2 and 1957 pt 2. I bought them as they are the years of birth for SWMBO and myself but, whilst my better half accepts a vast amount of my music, these collections were a step too far. So they are going.

But like you I was amazed at the number of versions of songs ... 4 of the afore-mentioned Davy Crockett, 3 each of No Other Love, The Wayward Wind, and The Threepenny Opera (Mack the Knife).

Have you tried 1956 pt 2 yet ... 3 versions of In the Middle of the House ... aaarrrgghhh! The lyrics make Mack the Knife appear as a nursery rhyme!

Happy listening.

I have 1956 to 1959. Still working my way through them - a judicious use of the NEXT button on the remote is recommended - this happens every time Russ Conway or Winifred Atwell appear, and I tend only to listen to the version (of multiple versions of the song) which I remember. A little disappointed at how many of the tracks are obviously dubbed from vinyl - and using a not particularly good record deck.

My Mum made me a DC hat from an offcut of her "fur" (not) coat. Tail an' all...
