Power cuts...

Just spoken to Mrs Seagull. Apparently we have had a brief power cut at home.

My Naim kit was left on, but I don't think she had time to switch it off before the power returned.

Is uncontrolled switching off and on like this potentially harmful to the kit?

You should be fine - don't worry about it, Naim equipment is pretty robust. Obviously if you have say 20 power cuts a day it might eb a bit problematic but a few brown outs won't hurt.

Dev -- who is just waiting for someone to come and say your sistem will now take 6 months to warm up wink

We suffer all too frequently from power cuts. It's never caused a problem for my Naim amp or tuner. These are left on all the time. The only time it gets turned off is when we're on holiday or there's a likelihood of lightning.

Subject: Are brown-outs harmful?

No, not in Naim systems. All the voltages either decline smoothly or
there are relays to isolate any damaging spikes.

I live in a village that has had over thirty power cuts this year and
no damage has resulted, so I feel our systems are fully tested in the
field.

This does not apply in some mixed manufacturer systems.
