Anybody know the dates and venue for the London Show yet?

If you can bear to buy Hi-Fi News (I think), they're giving away tickets on the front cover.
(Wait a minute, front cover, buying?, dark corridors of WH Smiths here I come).

I actually have a lot of respect for this magazine.
At least they tell you who is doing the reviews, and with what partnering equipment.
At least they actually try out the component under review with different components.
As they don't give a star rating, the reader is obliged to consider the merits of their formative assessment of products.
I admit it - they do say nice things about equipment I own!
Free tickets, or reduced rates to hi-fi shows is a bonus.
It's always a nice day for it, have a good one

Sure, its Ken Kessler for anything pretentious and Alvin Gold for anything flippant, usually with Krell thrown in somewhere.

Oh, and don't forget, Martin Colloms for anything pedantic.

Thanks for the info. I try to avoid HiFi mags as I find that they make me restless with whatever gear I have, and to want to spend.

I'm assuming that besides the Naim kit, the lovely Anna will be there selling CD's again. Any chance that there might be other Naim goodies on the stall such as record bags etc etc. I know there is limited space and Cds should come first - but I just wondered.
Also is there any chance of Thea Gilmore doing a few acoustic numbers, would love to meet her, or even Foo Foo?

I think Alvin Gold is one of the best hi-fi reviewers out there. His group tests are really good and written in an easy conversational manner which is a very difficult style to perfect. Lets not forget that he has given very positive reviews to most of the naim slimline range. Martin Colloms is a bit anal (a lot of forum contributors are equally guilty) but he uses a Nap 250 and a naimed LP12 in his refernece system! Do we only agree with these writers when it suits us? Maybe I am being very controversial here, but actually it may be possible to like equipment from various manufacturers - at the same time! Hi-fi News is the best regularly published mag of its type out there - I wish they hadn't facelifted it though.

i think i have the name right this time ... at last!!!

dont forget martin colloms points system, which i find curious, rather than informative.
the other bit of HFN that i like is that they list what systems the reviewers use at home, and also what equipment they recommend. i find this very interesting indeed.
enjoy

My sister has worked in magazine publishing for years, and has met these guys many times.
I'd like to tell you what the arty magazine production types say about the reviewers, but I don't want to get sued.

Not a bad chap really, just crudely formed in this day and age looks like he is from a different era, mmmmmmmmmm, just what he says about our kit!

Will Naim be showing any new products at the London show?
Posted on: 03 August 2001 by Paul Stephenson
Some, well it wouldn,t be a surprise would it? The stupid show can only let us have one room again and what is worse it clashes with a show in Milan, I would much rather be in Italy than Hammersmith!

Me too. And I've never been to Hammersmith!

Paul
If you go to Milan, its all big long pasta lunches and barolo wine. Do you really want that?
Far better to be in Hammersmith with a cheese sandwich and a pint of beer.
Next time you are in London, try Rules in Maiden lane, best restaurant in the place.
Have to admit the weathers better out there.
Regards
Mick......I had an Italian lunch today....in Swindon
