Whats the best way to connect these please.

I use a Chord Crimson RCA-to-DIN cable from my Beresford to my 102. About $110.

I figured it was good enough for now...

Does anyone know if the DAC comes with an I/C?

thanks,
Patrick

Sounds like a wonderful system Scotty.

I've got a spare Nait 2 and AVI S2000MD DAC which I could partner with my MacBook for a second system. I just need to decide what speakers to use...

im gonna use kans and opted for a dacmagic instead of a beresford.

Very nice indeed. The DacMagic is superb for the price. I was very happy with mine.

As to the Kans, this is an embarassing admission, but I've still never heard a pair! I was thinking of using something like AVI Neutron IV

Scotty,

I've used an iPod and Apple Lossless files into a Nait 1 and 2 and Kan Is. Any basic optical cable and a simple Chord/Flashback cable will be fine.

If I were you, I'd put aside your audiophool pretensions, and experiment with using the EQ settings in iTunes and fatten up the sound a little - I found it was a little bit thin and shrill at anything above about half-eight on the volume, what with the Nait and Kans combination being designed to suit the midrange bloom of a pre-Cirkus LP12.

Lefty, no Kans? Shocking. No idea why Linn stopped making them as they're the only audio component that have ever made me think I was suddenly listening to a whole new record collection. Not exactly a faithful reproduction, but incredibly fast sounding and great fun.

A cracking set up, Scotty.

I know I know! And from your description, they definitely sound like my kinda speaker. I will have to get a listen at some stage Smile

I know what you mean Chief about the thin sounding Kans....whatabout therefore a small simple computer type sub sited under the desk ??

It's not something I've tried, but I guess there's no harm in giving it a go if you have a suitable sub to hand.

While Kans are one of the last speakers you'd want to use with almost any digital source, like I said, I had no qualms about using the iTunes equaliser. From memory, I used something like a lift in the bass, and then a curved lift across the rest of the range.

For a second system costing less than a Powerline, it sounded great to these ears.

Certainly for the earlier ones....ear achingly painful!

Scotty

Worth a punt and I'd be interested to hear how you got on with a sub with them!

thinking of n-sats now instead of kans they should be better in the bass dept shouldnt they ? then no need to worry about subs.

Probably much better with digital sources. The issue for Kans for me wasn't lack of bass but very painful mid/high frequency performance. I always loved their bass performance.

I built a lovely sounding little system about 6 months ago. Picked up a nait 5i and a pair of mint Royd Sapphire II's with Kan 2 stands to go with the Beresford. Driven by my iMac it's a really nice system and the speakers can right in the corners and against the wall. Enough of the lower end when required.

Jay

MBP Pro for me with Cambridge DAC Magic, Nait 5i into EPOS 3's on ballst filled Atacam stands. Just ideal for my Londinium flat and very good at low moderate listening levels. I replaced the Bereford with the DAC Magic and just find it less fatuiguing to listen to over extended periods (looks better too! Smile )

Hi Jim

They are probably pretty similar sounding systems. I actually have the cambridge dacmagic downstairs in the living room so will need to try it at some stage!

Sounds promising... Smile I just ordered a Cambridge DACmagic today, for my SB3 and Nait 5i into n-Sats.
(and an Atlas digital coax to connect the DAC with the SB3)

funny....i got a dacmagic today too! lost out on a nice pair of n-sats at a very reasonable price though. cant win em all. Winker

I bought the Dacmagic last weekend.
Hooked up to a Nait XS with a cheap pair of RCA-RCA cables it sounds on par to the CD5i to my ears. I've ordered the new Flashback RCA-Din which should improve it somewhat....

Ah, that's good to hear Sandy8. To get my SB on a par to my CD5i is about my goal to achieve with this DAC.

With the CI Audio PSU I have for my SB3 it already comes close to my CD5i.
I'm wondering if I could use the CI Audio VDC-SB psu to power the DACmagic instead. (the CI Audio VAC1 can)

Today I already got my DAC! Smile (ordered it just 3 days ago)

Well,..eventhough it's still cold out of the box, and perhaps a little too early to jump to conclusions, I can at least say that my first impressions are Very Good!

So far I noticed that the soundstage has become deeper and voices sounding more natural.
Music flows with ease, very open, clear and detailed.
It looks like I have achieved my goal with this DAC.

(whoops... sorry, to became offtopic with my DAC enthousiasm)

cheers,
Alco
