The Strokes - New Al***

Got the new 'Q' through the post yesterday, and having a quick flick through noticed the new Strokes album got a 5 star review. Now this is pretty rare for 'Q' and certainly the first 5 star review of the year, in fact the last 5 star review may have been The Strokes 1st Album.

Got me thinking though, how well does the 1st stokes album stand up now?. I quite liked this at the time but I've got to admit I've not listened to it at all after the first month or two of ownership. It was pretty universally praised at the time but does it still appeal now??

At the time the revival of that sound was just what guitar music needed to bring the masses away from the potastic doldrums of the likes of Sclub et al. However, I too ran out of steam with the album and a recent listen left it sounding decidedly drab and rather wet incomparison with the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ravonettes etc.

Am intrigued by the new album and may give it a listen when I can.

Anyone else have any views on it?

I think the first album is great, but will be interested to hear the new one and whether they can maintain their high standards. Aparently the band had been in existence a long long time before they released their first record. This new one appears to have been knocked out quite quickly. They also impressed me live.

All these US guitar, jackets and sneekers bands are beginning to sound the same to me. I haven't played the Strokes first album for ages, and will probably get the new one just to see. I still listen to The Thrills though, and Radio4.
I don't think it is lasting music. Great fun while its fresh though.
