A great pity.
Ferrari win = routine, boredom
Hamilton win = romance, excitement

The slide on the pit lane on worn tires and a wet track was a mixture of misfortune and his team keeping him out for so bloody long.
But his start yesterday was terrible. Had he not gone off the track the gearbox issue would not have cost him so many places. I dare say he will grit his teeth to make fewer mistakes next year - and it's not like he made too many this season.

lewis hamilton will have a great future in F1 and finishing the season as 2nd is not so bad after all.
bad luck for Ferrari at the beginning of the season - bad luck for Mercedes at the end of the season: that's only fair i would say.
i also think Ron Dennis did a lot of mistakes this year and now he lost everything.
plus the burden of being the last in the pit lane next year.
i am really interested where Alsonso will drive the next season...

ps> ken i don't think this season was boring at all. the victory of Ferrari is only showing that you need to have a brilliant strategy as well.

Hamilton lost 2 or 3 places at the start and 11 places with the gearbox glitch.
I'm sure McLaren could have cut out 1 pit stop and fuelled him to the end and got the 2 places he needed.
Alonso could be doing a lot of driving, (his lawnmower) next year.

Hamilton win = Hamilton faster than Ferrari?

Hamilton win = Hamilton faster than Ferrari (no question mark required, he won).
Ferrari win = Ferrari faster than Hamilton? (question mark needed, they seem to have won but how?).

How? Well, it's a racing series. They went consistently faster. (Consistency being the operant concept.)
Where does "how" come into it?

According to the Sports Report on Radio Four at 07:25 this morning there is the possiblility of an enquiry that may yet see Hamilton awarded the World Champ title.
Whatever Hamilton has already said about the fairness of this - and he did not like the idea - it seems to me that the rules are the rules, and if this happens it seems to me to be "fair enough."

Next year.
Let's have the practice sessions mean something. Let's have Championship points awarded for pole, 2nd, 3rd etc. Just like the finish.
Only then, let's start the cars in reverse order. So pole starts last.
Then we would see some overtaking!

Rules are rules yes but just as some athletes have been awarded golds instead of silver when the winner tested positive for drugs it's a bit of a hollow victory .quote:Originally posted by GFFJ:

That's all well and good. But when the rules-are-the-rules concept was applied to McLaren earlier on this season about the espionage matter, there were no posts on this forum about the-rules-are-the-rules.
And the only difference I can see is that this time, the application of the rules might favour McLaren.

Dear Deane,
! am only speaking for myself! Which ever team any driver drives for I am not interested in, but I think Hamilton is a man of integrity, and worth the trouble [for me] to post about! The last F1 I watched was in 1999!
Otherwise, how's ya doin'?

Um, not sure what you mean there, Don.
Nearly all of the posts here during the time McLaren were fined (ok, I did say "no posts"...) referred to how Ferrari bent the rules to suit themselves and how the FIA was crooked and worked everything in Ferrari's favour etc.

ah!quote:(ok, I did say "no posts"...)
So, the subject WAS discussed, not ignored?
I presume that you DO agree that McLaren and Hamilton's alleged infringements etc, earlier in the season WERE scrutinised by the sport's governing body?
I presume that you DO agree that infringements in the last race of the season SHOULD be investigated?
Cheers
Don

Agreed on the two latter questions, Don.
My statement was ambiguous. I ought to have said that, when the McLaren espionage matter was discussed on this forum while it was news, there were very few posts on this forum about how the rules-are-the-rules and that they should apply to McLaren.
If this is still confusing or ambiguous, you must let me know.

Now, I haven't done my research of the forum history.
Either YOU raised the subject of "rules-is-rules" at the time of McLaren and nobody else was interested in the subject (I wasn't, because the matter looked like it was being investigated and punishment was being dished out), or
You didn't raise the issue about "rules" at that time and are just as guilty as the rest of the forum..........
As I say, I haven't done a trawl to find out who said what, I just took your word that NOBODY had made any comment, and naturally that included YOU.
Cheers

Not really, but then I have never been an avid "spectator" of any sport. I would rather go for a walk along the downs than watch a football match or a Grand Prix on television. Mrs D would rather I cut the grass or wash her car, or take her shopping........funny how oftern her car gets washed!

you maybe right but concerning TV programmes there's nothing better than a good tennis match or a world championships match - even girls watch it nowadays. F1 is not so easy to get but has a certain magic if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong, I think sport (including motor sport) is terrific and I will happily watch it, both live or on the telly. But I would rather spend my free time do something more active. So spectatoring gets relegated to late-evening television, usually in the form of "highlights".
enjoy (as Ken C would say)
cheers
