I have just seen 33/1/3 put Talk Talk Sprit of Eden as his favourite album on the said thread; are these perhaps one of the most underated bands of recent times? I have all their albums, and each is fantatsic, but strangely they are not hailed in the same way as far less talented (and inconsistant) groups such as The Stone Roses etc.

Reading this thread prompted me to dig “The Colour Of Spring” out. Forgot what a sublime record it is, although the only TT lp I’ve got.
Having a browse around their back catalogue, I notice that a couple of the albums were remastered in 97/98. Can anyone comment whether these add or detract from the originals, before I go a-shopping?

Toad.
Sorry can't really comment on what effect the remastering has had, however the recording quality on their albums, especially from the Colour of Spring onwards is superb. (I have them all on Vinyl so not sure what the CD quality is like, but I would expect it to be excellent).
Be Warned. The two albums prior to Colour of Spring are quite differant to the two after. The later two expanding in the direction of April 5th and Chameleon Day. However it is these latter two that are typically reguarded as really special, their first two albums (whilst good) are just superior early 80s pop.
IMO - It's The Spirit of Eden you should buy next.

Just to make matters worse, not too long ago they released SACD Hybrids of The Colour of Spring and Spirit of Eden. They sound the best of the digital formats out there. Of course the LPs are still the way to go.

Just to make

I have The Colour of Spring on CD --I don't believe it's a remastered copy. I was really surprised by how great the sound was; very rich and dynamic. Certainly a far sight better than most mid-1980's-vintage discs I've come across.
The record's not half-bad, either!

I have just cleaned my copy on LP of this - and it sounds rather fine again.

The Mark Hollis turned up today and it is a most beautiful piece of work. I have all the other stuff on vinyl so that says something. Glad this has rekindled my talk talk interest – sublime.
Cheers
