Interference ??

Posted by: Scott Mckenzie on 12 April 2001

I seem to be getting intereference (an audible hiss) from my speakers, it is not very noticable when music is playing, but when it isn't it can be quite clearly heard... any suggestions??

System:

Nait 3R
Arcam Alpha 7SE
Mordaunt Short MS 814 (to be replaced ASAP!!)
NACA5
Chord Chrysalis

If this is a hiss that can only just be heard from, say, 4 feet away in a quiet room with no music playing, then I think it is quite normal. I recall a thread a few months ago on this subject, probably with technical explanations, so have a search if you want, but I wouldn't worry.

Scott

I suffered from this problem several years ago when all of my equipment was stacked directly on top of each other.

I bought a stand and spaced the boxes out, about 6" away from each other.....end of problem....very silent speakers.

Cheers guys, I will endeavour to purchase a rack ASAP but unfortunately I am still at university and my stuff gets moved between two addresses and finding a rack to move too may be difficult, its not a problem, just a tad annoying so until I can buy a rack (I like the Fraim but not the price...) i think i'll have to live with it.

Thanks again

....and you have a Naim system????

Hey Naim, can you PLEASE double the price on everything? This is getting ridiculous! wink

Peeved and jealous...when I was at university, Naim was something I dreamed about, and spoke to the (now long-suffering) girlfriend about in hushed tones - and that was about a Nait2!

Regards,
Frank.
PS Whoops forgot to add the smileys.

It is possible, if like me you don't drink or smoke.

Before attending university I had:
Technics $200 cd player, Ion Systems obelisk 1, home made speakers.

Then:
Year 2 - bought a Linn Basik + K9
Year 3 - bought the Kan IIs (Linn's own ex-demo for £300) + stands (next to last pair of Kans at the Sound Organisation)

So it is possible, I was spending about £350/year on kit at that time.

Andrew

P.S. when doing a Doctorate you also get more cash, hence getting the Linn Mimik and 2nd hand 42.5/110.

Pffff, in that case you will learn nothing from attending University! Didn't anyone explain to you that it is your opportunity to over-indulge in drink, drugs, and sex before settling down to a boring working life where your only entertainment will be your expensive hifi system. wink

Unfortunately i missed the cut off point of the increased Student loans otherwise I would have had my CD3.5 by now aswell red face) Anyway most of my purchases seem to come form working really hard over the summer and then blowing all of the cash in one go on something really expensive - like a Nait 3R !!

Cheers Guys
