CDR-Audio blank discs

Posted by: Rockingdoc on 26 November 2002

Being a bit of an audio Luddite, I didn't know that there was a difference between data and audio CDR and CDRW blanks!
I see CDR data blanks everywhere, but can anyone advise on a good source (UK) of Audio blanks?
thanks

There is a difference, but it is only relevant for "consumer" recorders - the ones that the pros use take the computer style blanks.

Anyway, digression over, try www.protape.co.uk and select the "CD-R Audio" option in the main "CD-R" section. They'll be about £0.50 per blank in quantity.

Cheers,
Simon

The 'audio' discs are for consumer CDR decks, they are a bit more expensive as they have an additional levy to cover copyright issues.

Some decks can use PC discs...

I have done many comparisons with cdr and cdr-audio in computer burners and there is a vast difference in sound quality.

if you're not too bothered about not buying well known brand names like TDK and Sony this site is very good. I burn alot of CDRs and I've not had a problem with the disks. For instance they have Traxdata 40x 80m CDRs at under 20p each

I have done a lot of comparisons too, and while I agree that there are differences, as long as you get a decent brand I wouldn't say the differences were very big. I find there are much greater differences to be found in the CD burner that you use.

I to have noticed a difference,DataTrack Gold disks £1 at pound land sound far better than Grundig multi speed at £1 for 2. There is also far less jumping if any on the DataTrack gold.
