Speakers the final frontier!

Ok so I,ve got a pair of Epos es11/12 modified, had them for 7 years & for small standmounters I think they are one of the best I have heard. I really like them for sure But.... & heres the big BUT, I want more from my speakers than I'm getting!

My listening room is approx.12 by 19 feet, I am using 180,82,hi,& CDX.

Heres what I'm after:

Larger dynamic swing
Bigger bass (but still tuneful & punchy)
More presence
Massive soundstage
Almost real sound pressures(higher volume capability)
Effortless unbreakable sound.

In short something special. Not too much to ask is it?

Ok guys your thoughts please

Cheers for now Mad boy Matt big grin wink big grin roll eyes

Sbl's should give you what you aree after. In effect they are a hybrid design which looks to incorporate stand mount precision with floorstanding bass. If set up correctly they are very easy on the ear but also very revealing, the bass is fast and punchy. I love these speakers and your 180 will drive them well but they will also reward better ancilleries as you upgrade (although there is absolutley nothing wrong with what you have!).

Go active - I did and it has transformed my Credo's, it's amazing what speakers can be capable of given the chance.

If you like the Epos sound then you have to try ES30's. You can pick them up for a song these days. My room is much smaller than yours and these big guys really cry out for a large room to work in.

Dunno where you are based, but O & L in Battersea have some ex-dem ones on sale at the moment.

Hi all!

James:

I,ve got a pair of Sennhieser HD600's that sound fab! Even though I enjoy them theres somthing about hearing music from well set up loudspeakers in the listening room environment!

Timbo & Woodface:

Need to try the SBL's at home have had only one dem at hifi shop & wasn't impressed = bright no bass. However
using naim speakers will allow me to go active much easier, are the results that spectacular? I do have tha chance to buy some secondhand credos , but have tried them in the past with diff set up & results were some what harsh!

Dunc: ES22 suppost to be good also, I understand that the 30's are pretty big aren,t they? You thiunk the 180,s gonna drive them ok?

Thanks so far guys cheers Mad Boy Mat wink wink big grin wink

The ES22's are good. When I bought my 30's I spent 6 hours demming both before walking off with the 30's. The reason? The 22's sound right immediately, the 30's more laid back. I think this is down to a slightly forward mid-range on the 22's. I suspected - and I was right - that the 30's need to be thrashed for a couple of weeks before they loosen up and start to sing. The 22's would have been great at home but I would have tired of the presentation.

Also, the 30's have a flat response down to 25Hz, which is REL subwoofer territory. So they do an amazing job in a home cinema install without needing another box.

A 180 should be able to drive them fine, albeit not to foundation shattering levels. Crank it up too much and you will start to clip.

Matt:

I have both the ES22's and the ES30's and can confirm that they will give you most of what you want. The ES22's are a bit better speaker PRaT wise. The ES30's are better at bass, but the ES22's are better overall. Faster, better detail, better midrange, pain to set up.

You will get 5 out of the 6 things you are looking for. I doubt that you will get better imaging than you have with your monitors now.

If you want the imaging too, try out a set of ProAc 1SC's. They do things quite a bit differently. More round earth. Not much Bass though.
