Obama's health bid

I sincerely hope that bill will pass this weekend. This is a wonderful, historic moment which will server as a starting point on which we can build a great healthcare system.
I just really do not understand why there are SOME American who are opposed the healthcare plan, no matter what these people says, their arguments either do not really make sense or are too selfish because they do not want to pay for the poor, the disabled who cannot support themselves one way or another.

Because not allowing people to die because they can't afford health care is godammed COMMUNISM.
Or something like that.

I can remember watching a documentary about Cooke County Hospital Chicago. A stabbing victim arrived by ambulance, the first question he was asked was do you have insurance, when he said no he was transferred to another hospital half an hour away & died on the way!

We have the NHS in the UK which offers care free of charge to all.
Go into any hospital on a saturday night and it will be filled with drunks and yobs soaking up the taxpayers money.
The problem is .. how do you sort out the deserving from the undeserving and most people baulk at seeing their taxes being wasted.

Mick,
This is not a problem. Everyone is deserved a decent treatment, it is his/her right as a human being.
Thank Stu, I recall seeing some thread related to this but now the issue has come more urgent and the American are on the verge of making great history for themselves.

The NHS is not a bottomless pit and it has to juggle resources to meet its targets.
It is immoral that medical staff are diverted to treat an endless supply of drunken yobs every saturday night and that people with genuine conditions have their treatment delayed to accomodate this.
Those yobs should be invoiced for their treatment.

we could save a fortune if foreigners were invoiced before treatment.

Mick,
Nothing in this world is perfect, so is this health plan. But this is just a starting point, and I am quite sure that the plan will be refined, revised, and improved overtime.
The failing of the British NHS system is that it fails to be improved in step with the modern society, becomes too cumbersome, inflexible since its inception, the Tories and the Labour are afraid of making changes in because they are worried about their seats.

I know that EU nationals are covered just as you and I are covered for emergency treatment in France and Spain. I am not certain about the rest. I agree that a foreign national should be invoiced but in all fairness we have to treat him if he suffered an accident or heart attack etc. The power to recover due sums under these circumstances is rather limited.
We all know that a high percentage of hospitals time is taken up with idiots who are wasting everyone elses time. Saturday and Friday nights are well known to be near to breaking point dealing with drunken yobs and we could certainly do something here.

Mick

Sense, at last.
I am bemused by those Amaericans who seem to think it undemocratic to provide health care for all.
Presumably they have no problem with the eugenics of allowing the poor to die.
Some nasty black propaganda, as well.

Sooner or later, they will run out of other people's money, as Mrs. Thatcher said.
The US government Social Security System, ---not to mention Medicare, Medicaid, and other welfare systems --- already have more people riding the wagon than pulling the wagon. This initiative just piles more people on the wagon.
The Social Security system in the US is a bigger fraud but comparable to Bernie Madoff in its approach. Why would I want these incompetents more involved in health care?
I think the healthcare bill is very bad news for the US, and I think many people agree with me. I fear a VAT in the US, and more government intrusion in my life. Who wouldn't?

With due respect, I have heard similar arguments to yours every day before the run-up to the house voting last weekend, it still does not make sense to me.

You may be right. Wait until you start paying for it. Then it will make sense.
You will be paying for it, correct?
I live here, and I am pretty sure I will be.
To me it is pretty simple: I am either paying for the health care of others, or supporting my nearby Naim dealers.
Does it make sense to you now?

You should be paying for the healthcare of others that cannot afford to pay before you spend money on Naim.
It's called civilisation.

Yes, it does really make sense to me, very much so!
How about the hardworking people who work here day and night on low wages, the young, the old, single-parent families who cannot afford medical insurance because their employers do not provide health benefits.
How about the people who get cancer or serious diseases and require expensive treatments, I have seen a close friend of mine who had to get a lawyer and sue the insurance company because they refused to pay when their child had a brain surgery. Some people would rather die than to have to pay for surgery, chemo, etc. because if they do so, their families will become bankrupt losing everything they have. Imagine the sufferings these people have gone through.
And please do not worry about your own wallet, your nice Naim system and your HIFI dealers! It will be much cheaper by the end of the day for you and me and everyone else.

Good to hear that you will never ever ever fall ill, get infirm or have anything similar happen to any of your familiy or loved ones ever. And Ms. McCaughey told bit, fat lies, by the way.
I presume that you'd like the US Cavalry to buy their own Bradleys; the US Navy to save up for their own ships and for Astronauts to save up their cents for their own rockets and space suits.
Question for you: how much would a kidney transplant cost you? ( not that you'll answer... )

Emergency treatment for all whatever nationality is given in the UK. However if you are a non EU national and want non urgent treatment this is what the Govts own website has to say
Paying for hospital treatment
Once the hospital has established that you must pay for treatment, you will usually be asked to pay the full cost in advance, unless emergency treatment is required immediately.
If you cannot pay in advance, the hospital will ask for a written undertaking to pay.
Because we are such wusses in allowing the last sentence in the last 2 years non EU nationals have buggered off leaving unpaid bills of £22 million.

£22 million is peanuts in the overall scheme of things.
Possibly there is a case for supplying treatment free of charge and then billing their countries of origin health service.

I enjoy you guys, and I know we would enjoy a beer together. Right up until the first pistol shot.
I appreciate the audio gear and the shoes, and I respect and love the Queen. And the special relationship. And the shotguns, and the way you spell "pyjamas". And you have the best cigars. And a great country generally. Soccer on TV. If you like it, I love it.
If we had all that stuff in America, the United States would benefit. But we suck in beer, audio gear and cigars. You win.
What we do well is hope, growth, and opportunity. We were winning the last I checked. But it was damn close. It is important for us to keep the USA attractive for people like you who may want to move here. Many other people do.
When I see around the corner, the failure of Bush --- Bush hurt himself and us, and I acknowledge his failure, and hate that he gave us Obama ----- and the failure/success of Obama will give us the necessity of a VAT. I love Europe and the UK, especially the beer and the audio equipment, but the VAT is bad news for us BIG TIME. It supports more government and that is bad for the USA. We function best with less, not more government.
Between the VAT and letting the uninsured falter, most Americans would agree with me. The VAT should die.
I know you may not agree, and I respect that. I am trying not to sound ugly. But I believe in what we are doing here. Send us your best and keep 'em coming.
I will look into the kidney transplant pricing, but I think they want to know you are serious before they lay it out for you. Like Obama-care, the initial price is not the whole picture.
