I sincerely hope that bill will pass this weekend. This is a wonderful, historic moment which will server as a starting point on which we can build a great healthcare system.
I just really do not understand why there are SOME American who are opposed the healthcare plan, no matter what these people says, their arguments either do not really make sense or are too selfish because they do not want to pay for the poor, the disabled who cannot support themselves one way or another.

Why is VAT a bad thing - you have state tax, city taxes etc in the US. In Phoenix or Az a special tax was imposed on all purchases to pay for the development of roads. Several cities eg Pheonix, Albuquerque and possibly Denver have raised bonds to build central Car rental sites at their major airports.
You also have several different layers of income tax. So do not pretend that you live in a tax free government free country.

I find it very intriguing to try and understand the needs and wants of a nation other than my own.
Your perceptions are real and are the truth to you. However, your beliefs,experiences,lifestyle,and perceptions have no understanding or experience living as American citizen.
You say,"it's about time", or some other comment that excludes any understanding of any impact or asking what the American people(the majority)what they believe this law will do to our country.
No matter what you have read or heard, without spin,66% of America were against this bill before the vote. But, in good form, our representatives felt that we did not know what was good for us. So, they took it into their own hands. The new ruling class,they are.
Our congress compared this bill to the civil rights bill passed in the 60s.Before civil rights was signed into law,LBJ,a bigot,prejudiced man,and President of these United states was forced to sign civil rights into law because over 2/3rds of the country wanted it.
The health care bill that was passed recently was not supported by 2/3rds,it was and still opposed by 2/3rds of the citizens of this country.
As I write,dozens of states are queuing up to sue the Federal government to show how unconstitutional this law is.More states every day.
This bill will bring this country to its' knees.
2.5 trillion dollars to fund this. Take 500 billion from Medicaid?(which is broke and supports the needs of our seniors medical needs)will fail completely.
Insurance companies will go out of business. Retail will lay off,the quality of care will diminish to unforgiving levels.
For the American people, it comes down to how many freedoms we are willing to give up? At what point will we draw the line? I believe the rest of the world is in a good position to see one of two scenarios to unfold in the next 12 months.
Come November, we go to the poles and vote on the members of the congress and senate. If we,the people vote out those who did this to us? Well, the chance of this law being repealed is good.This will be the most important election in my lifetime.
Second, if the law continues to move forward, takes it grip on the economy, you will see a depression much worse than the one that began in 29.
In my opinion, America is the most generous,and giving nation in the history of the world.
We will no longer be in any position to be the nation that comes to the rescue of others in need. We will be in such a tailspin,I can't even comprehend the repercussions.

What mikeeschman said. Except I'll go so far as to characterize most of what Newman says as speculative fiction rather than opinion.
The Constitution of the United States was ordained and established for exactly six explicitly stated reasons (parenthetical elements added):
"We the People of the United States, (1) in Order to form a more perfect Union, (2) establish Justice, (3) insure domestic Tranquility, (4) provide for the common defence, (5) promote the general Welfare, (6) and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
Item 5 clearly shows the constitutionality of better health care for all; items 1, 2, 3, and 6 also seem entirely relevant. The ridiculous showboating Republicans and their ill-conceived lawsuits are doomed to failure.

I think Mike and jay have summed up what my feelings on the subject pretty well. If anything we need to address how the insurance companies are pumping up profits at the expense of the public. Maybe pull their anti-trust exempt status?
