Das Boot, or The English Patient.

There is supposed to be a disco version of the Das Boot title theme, I ask you is nothing sacred ?

Classic: Oh Mr Porter - Will Hay, Moore Marriott and Graham Moffatt

Modern: The Truman Show {even if it is based on something that could never happen - I mean as if people would watch reality TV)

Bladerunner - It just has so much going on.

Failing that it would have to be Laurel & Hardy - you can't help but laugh.

Solaris ( not the Clooney version!)

One of my favorites: Battleship Potemkin.

A classic Russian silent movie directed by Einsteein who used Shostakovitch's music.

Probably the Coen Bros 'Fargo'. I've seen it so often I know the script.

The 'Deer Hunter' close behind.

Most of the Powell and Pressburger canon - particularly Colonel Blimp or the one with the loony nun up the Himalayas
Posted on: 15 December 2005 by Quasimodoh!
On the small screen then Shawshank Redemption or Midnight Run, in the cinema it would have to be some big action movie like Terminator 2, or (apologise in advance) Starship Troopers!

Dave

PS. Thanks DS, I hadn't even realised they'd made a film version of Slaughterhouse V, one of my favourite books. Now it's on the list.

You're thinking of Black Narcissus, I believe.

No one's gone for The Spice Girls Movie yet. And you're supposed to be music lovers(!).

Agreed - which version though - director's cut or with the narrative?

Graham,

yes, that's the one. I always liked the story that Kathleen Byron (the loony nun) once allegedly pulled a gun on Powell whilst she was naked, leading to a quote from Powell along the lines of "a naked woman with a gun can be quite persuasive." I need to find my old copy of his biography.
