Erik,

Perhaps we should sent some copies to Iraq?
It is amazing that no one learns from history.

Iraq and Israel/Palestine and a few others. I agree you you (and Voltaire) 'The only thing history teaches us is that history teaches us nothing'.

David,

I'm pleased to see the Duellists in your list - I was spellbound when I first saw it at the cinema years ago.

Thank you. I am always looking for a good movie to watch. If you did not see the Bbattle of Algiers I highly recommend it. The film maker was Italian.

KIPPUR

One of the very few Israeli movies that I like. It takes place during the Yom Kippur War of October 1973, and it is based on the personal experience of Amos Gitai, the movie director.
In the few first days of the war, two reserve soldiers fail to hook up with their reserve unit and instead end up with a medical crew which is assigned to evacuate wounded soldiers and extract pilots who are shot down behind enemy lines. Hardly any dialogue but excellent cinematography and sound to convey a real sense of the confussion and the caos of a war.

Gianluigi,

I agree. Very good music and film, much better than Saving Private Ryan that everyone liked here (US), and I hated.

Hi Haim!
Saving Private Ryan has the patriotic cut that make it boring after the first time.
All those accurate deaths, wounds and amputations make it a blood shower.
I do prefer the old 1962 "The longest day" to it.

Hans Zimmer did write a very good soundtrack for "Thin red line".
Have you ever listened to the "Gladiator" soundtrack.
There are some beautiful parts with Lisa Gerrard as well.
Takes me back to the best pieces of old Dead Can Dance!

Cheers
Gianluigi
