Gianluigi,

I hated Saving Private Ryan from the beginning. The idea that in the middle of a huge landing involving hundreds of thousands of troops someone will take the time to look for one soldier is pretty stupid.

I served for three years in a combat unit, and unfortunately it ruined for me most war movies that seem to me silly and pretentious today.

My father, who was a playwriter, wrote forty years ago a comedy titled "The Longest Day" but had to change the name of the play a week before production because there was an American war movie coming to Israel with the exact same title...

Regards,

Haim

Hans Zimmer did write a very good soundtrack for "Thin red line".
Have you ever listened to the "Gladiator" soundtrack.
There are some beautiful parts with Lisa Gerrard as well.
Takes me back to the best pieces of old Dead Can Dance!

Cheers
Gianluigi

Gianluigi,

I think Lisa Gerrard is magnificent.

Here Here re: Lisa Gerrard......

Gladiator soundtrack, and the not so well known 'more music from the motion picture Gladiator' are excellent! I'm tempted by the 'Whale Rider' soundtrack too, especially after our honeymoon in NZ where we did some whale watching (amazing experience), does anybody own it....??

And, so we don't get too far off topic, the actual film Whale Rider is lovely too....
Heart warming stuff....

Movies of the same elk - The Green Mile, Scrooged (Bill Murray at his best), Big Fish....

Cheers,
Ali

The Green Mile is one very sad film. I watched in company and wish I had not. Fredrik

I like the Green Mile too and was saddened it got a pathetic 2 stars and a lousy write up in the Radio Times recently - some of these critics are just cynical bastards who only like films made by that psycho Tarantino.

Hi Haim!
A pretty stupid idea to base an entire movie on!

Yes.
I know what you mean.
Night tracer bullets' light is not so romantic when you recieve or send them.
My father and me decided that old WB cartoons are much more better.

Hi again Haim!
Yes, her voice is splendid!
At the same time i've never been able to stand Brendan Perry's voice!
Mah!

Hi Erik!
I don't like all Tarantino's works, but i think that Pulp Fiction is quite a nice comic strip.
Sometimes i watch it and find it funny.

Hi Gianluigi,

Here is my opinion of reservoir dogs and posted on amazon.com last year:

'This is a film about killers - mindless psychos - the dregs of humanity - it is a cartoon sort of film with cartoon dialogue spoken by cartoon characters. It is directed by a cartoon character. It is without any virtue as adult entertainment. It is loved by cartoon characters who relate to the cartoon characters in the film. How sad. How about a film about decent people striving to rise above their limitations, about sacrifice and honour, about love and compassion, a film with insight and meaning and not just a slick orgy of foul mouthed psychos standing around killing each other? This movie is a toilet'.

Gianluigi, the sad thing about this film is that many people consider it the greatest film ever made and that Tarantino is a genius. I genuinely liked KillBill 1 and 2 and Jackie Brown is ok. However Pulp Fiction and Reservior Dogs are porn for the worst kind of morons.

Have you seen Brother or Snatch?
Movies to me and nothing else.

Hi Gianluigi,

Nope I have not seen either and feel no strong inclination to do so - I'm sure they have some redeeming feature but I'm not bothered to find it. Yes, there are 'stupids' everywhere but what can we do about it? We are outnumbered and surrounded. What to do? Winker

I cannot say one mean word about this film.

Erik,

I never bothered with Pulp Fiction but I saw Reservoir Dogs and I could not agree more. I saw it by myself (I did not dare to suggest to my wife to watch it with me) and it left a real bad taste in my mouth. Why would anyone make such a movie?

Gianluigi,

It is the least romantic when you are on the receiving end for two reasons: It is no fun to be shot at and if they are aiming the bullets at you, it is impossible to see those tracers in the air. Cartoons are much much much better.

Yeah I did, a while ago Gianluigi......
Thought it was a bit unnecessarily graphic, and not Harvey's best flick to be honest!

You...??
