Don't know how many of these have got onto other people's desert island films...

A Matter of Life and Death
Babette's Feast
Diva
Jean de Florette / Manon des Sources
Kind Hearts and Coronets
Shawshank Redemption
The Cruel Sea
The Way Ahead
Repo Man
And for a western, Unforgiven (or possibly The Searchers...)

Am I the only person who still mourns the passing of BBC2 Moviedrome, presented by Alex Cox (director of Repo Man)? It really was a most wonderful way to access interesting - I guess some would use the term 'arthouse' - films.

I am still trying to track down 'Tampopo' on dvd.

Sorry.
A lot of movies i see and have comes from italian directors and actors.
Some of them don't have an english trans.
I would gladly involve you all in some very good film, but i still think some would find it boring because hardly understandable.
This is the next movies i'll get:

Movie for tonight

Well, I can watch '2001 A Space Odyssey' over and over again because of the wonderful way that Kubrick uses classical music in the soundtrack. Isn't that how everyone first heard Strauss's "Thus spake Zarathustra"?

And of course the greatest science fiction film of all time, Forbidden Planet.

I have just watched 'The officer's ward' - a wonderful french film about an officer horribly disfigured during the first days of WW1 and his struggle back to health and dignity. I highly recommend it.
