Joni Mitchell -shine

Just picked this up today.

Only listened to the first track which is lovely. Will report back once I have had a good listen.

Looking at the lyrics it is easy to see that she is not too impressed with humankind in general.

Incredible! Great music and social commentary. She plays most of the instruments on this one with occasional help from friends.

There are some great tracks on this album. Really beatiful in places.

If I was going to gripe I would say that it would have been nice to use real strings and on a couple of songs and I yearn for that wonderful Jaco Pastorious fretless bass which is so characteristic of her late seventies output. Other that that I am really loving it.

Glad she found her mojo after all that painting!

I think this one will be a grower rather than jumping up and grabbing me like Chalkmark did.

Fave tracks so far: Night of the Iguana, Shine and If.

It's great that she's recording original compositions again.

Picked up a copy while holidaying in the USA where it is was given a high profile in the CD store I visited...having its own display stand.

Had a listen yesterday and was impressed with the whole album. Topical lyrics and social commentary... interesting melody lines as usual with Joni. Good new version of Big Yellow Taxi.

Production is good and not over compressed like so many albums today.

Interesting to read the label, Hear Music, is owned by a well known chain of coffee shops... read the small print at the bottom of the reverse of the CD case!
