More coffee - for you Kitchen Aid grinder owners.

I have had a Gaggia Classic for yonks and have used Illy espresso ground with excellent results - good flavour and nice crema etc etc.

Now here's the thing....I've just bought a Kitchen Aid burr grinder and have tried to produce a good espresso ground, (I adjusted the machine as per the manual). I'm not getting a good result. The grind appears not to be fine enough and the flow is too quick - about 10 secs. Clearly the grind, even with a good tamp is not restricting the flow and allowing good pressure build up.

I've tried a couple of beans but still the same.

Any ideas? What beans can I try before taking the thing back for a refund!?

I need my grinder on about 7.5 to get the right blend, but I imagine it can vary machine to machine, if you have the same grinder as me, the one which looks like a mini kitchenaid mixer, you can idsmantle the grinding mech and adjust it, so that the range is moved to the finer or coarser end of the spectrum, ie your old setting 1 is now medium rather than coarse, and your new setting 10 is super super fine, please see the instruction book as I have forgotten how to do this.

And someone here increased the fineness of the grind by adjusting a stop

Derek,

The two reviews you gave a link to are about the old model.

Count.d - However there might be a consistency of design between the models and also Dobbin can determine if the product has been improved
