Financial Advisor - Who?What?Why?

Posted by: wellyspyder on 16 October 2005

So you fellow forum members who use these services: have you considered who they are working for? Are they really looking after your best interest or worse for their own? Should you not have an alternate review of your financial portfolio? Really at the end of the day, only number 1 will matter. So watch out. You may not be getting the best deal here. Eek

How do you mean? Or rather what is your question? Confused

I thought you were asking a rhetorical question....and thought you had a personal experience to share. Do you not or is your advice just born from the well of all knowledge?

Why pay a financial consultant when you have the Naim forum?

I'd rather spend it than talk about it.

Excellent points.

Might I also add that it is a bad idea to step in dog shit, particularly in bare feet.

No offence to the honest ones. Big Grin

However of late you only hear of the sharks. Worse ones are those who take your money, then go and use it to feed their gambling habit. Only to find you have no more money when you want it. Then there are the others who say they are looking after you, but all they are doing is getting your money to work for them. Investing your money for their gain mainly, yours is just a "by product". Do not say I did not warn you. Cool

Mike,

You are certainly asking the right questions. IFAs were regulated by FIMBRA, now it's the FSA. Whilst the former was a gentlemans' club based on integrity within, the latter is formed out of vested interests from the Big Financial Boys from without.

Either way the consumer is regulated to stop spurious accusations from above (if ever they are substantiated) from ruining the dispensing of sound financial advice from the majority of those decent in the business.

Been taking my time to consider this one. No this is a public forum, so go find "juicy details" elsewhere and from someone else. Suffice to say, <Buyer BEWARE>.

We got screwed once too by one of them - misleading advice. Got a reasonable one off payment to compensate though.

Why don't you just give some general details of your experience otherwise it's a little pointless don't you think?

I think our poorly spider is trolling.

If I go into a pub and get served a bad pint I don't conclude that all beer as well as all those who serve it are shit.

Welly did say this: No offence to the honest ones.

So how did you arrive at your conclusion that welly is saying all financial advisor are....

Anyway why are you both (portly and toy) so offended by this? Have you both got something to hide?

My father is not dead. He's just retired. He still does a bit of consultancy work for those in the pub/restaurant trade.

Hey! He escaped the clutches of the FSA without dying first - and with a sqeaky clean record as well as an impeccable reputation that got as far as Kent...

Suffice to say, you have nothing to say. You come and point fingers and when asked to back it up tell us to look elsewhere?

I'll file this under BLUFFER if thats OK with you.

I see you do not know your facts about Steve's father, now do you? Having to apologise for your "cock up". Bad bad. What a blunder.

Just because you and Steve cannot hear about the mess I was surrounded by does not mean it did not happen. It appears you both get your "rocks off" from hearing of others misfortune. Everyone including yourselves should take financial stock of your situation at least once a year, if not more frequent, don't you think?

Oh, one other thing, just because you all have what you call the FSA, do not assume that other countries have it too. Narrow minded you both.

Sayonara fellows.

Nothing to hide, Mr. Vader ( or can I call you Darth? )

its just that Steven and I ( feel free to call me Mike ) both have knowledge of financial services: I work with them ( but am not an IFA ) and Steven's late father was an IFA.

Both of us get sick and tired of small minded tappers coming here every now and again, making sweeping generalisations about how poor / crooked OFAs are, but when asked to produce hard facts, bottle it.

What do you do for a living? No need for comic Star Wars references, real world please.

Regards

Mike

I cannot help but notice that you often ask what others do for a living, why is that?

Why don't you tell us specifically, what is yours first?

No interest regarding your occupation. You ask a question about me which I find intrusive (you could be a psychopath or worse....). If you are not prepared to answer your own question, it is inappropriate to ask it. I would not believe your reply anyway.

How many forum members will answer the question regarding their occupation honestly and without any reservation? If you are prepared, please state your real name and occupation.

Saying:

PS - I did give a teeny hint as to the industry I work in when I said "I work with them" ( financial advisers.)

does not say anything useful. You could be their toilet cleaner and you still work in that industry Big Grin.

So your turn.

What goes in other countries is of no relevance to the IFA business in the UK.
