Hi-Cap arrives today

Posted by: Simon Jenkins on 05 May 2001

Just received a call and my hi-cap arrives today. Just about to leave and pick it up. I presume that the burn in time for a new hi-cap is going to be a few weeks ? Any comments on this ?

Happy Simon

You've gone quiet! Maybe you are going through all your music again like it's the first time you've heard it.

Well,

First impressions of the hi-cap are great. Basically more of everything, and it can only get better as it warms up. Will post some more detailed findings soon.

Just had my first real chance to sit down and listen to my system with the hi-cap, as we've had vistors all weekend.

I only got about 45 minutes, and I guess the cap isn't warmed up properly or burnt in yet, but my instant response was AWESOME.

More of everything. More PRAT, tighter deeper bass, better mid and treble. More space between notes, also far more soundstage, width and depth. I find that the IBL's normally disappear and just produce music, but with the hi-cap they are totally invisible. No hi-fi is present, just music.

I think that adding a hi-cap to the 72/180 is one of the best value for money upgrades I've done, even at just over 800 pounds with the current exchange rate. The only upgrade I've done which was better was swapping my Linn Index's for the IBL's.

Very Very Very happy Simon

After a few weeks, disconnect the hi-cap and then listen. If you can. It will be almost unbearable. I just hope nobody lends me a super-cap. Well, maybe.......
